I can't get the kimchi smell out of a "lock and lock" container.

a) I'm a moron and I don't know if this using it would still be unsanitary

b) How do I get rid of it?

Fill it w/ hot water and add some bleach and let it sit a long time.

You never will get it out. Kimchi is like resin.
Even when I open my fridge (previous owner was Korean) it still smells of Kimchi even though there's no kimchi in there.

Some advice that I've heard from Daegu Koreans is to leave the container outdoors for a few nights. I'm not sure if it will remove all of the color and smell, but my past experience is that it helps.

My university flatmate (a Korean girl from Suwon) had never heard of that and just let the container sit for a few days with liquid detergent inside.

If it's a see-through tupperware container I'll bleach it and let it sit overnight. If it's a plastic container . . . I dunno, never tried bleach (I'm afraid it'll cause discoloration). I've used detergent and other cleaners, and it's worked.

I'm wary of taking leftovers home from Korean friends. I appreciate the offers, of course, but the stench is overpowering. I got a tupperware of radish kimichi, and as soon as I opened it the kitchen was overrun by the stench. Only after tons of cleaner, disinfectant, and bleach was I able to make the refrigerator smell clean again.

Boil it in acid? Kimchi smell does not go away!

You could try washing it with baking soda, perhaps, but I'd probably just buy new tupperware.

So do I just dedicate a container to kimchi and move on?

It's too late for the OP. but for other noobs out there: never bring kimchi into your home.

Listen to the advice and heed it!

Use a glass container with a screw top lid and before putting the lid on, cover the opening with plastic wrap. This will help keep the smell out of the fridge.
