I want to purchase a money order to mail home and deposit in my account. I read on here somewhere that a money order only costs about W7000 vs the W15 000 to 20 000 KEB charges for a wire transfer and the additional $20 my home bank charges to deposit it.
I asked my korean co-workers about it and they have no clue what I'm talking about. Can anyone give me the Korean words for a money order?
Also, I'm hoping to get a credit card and I don't want what my bank considers a credit card - getting a card after opening a credit account with the limit being the amount of $ in the account. I call that a debit card.
Samsung also turned me down when I called to apply for their card on the basis of my employment - hagwon. They said hagwon employees are not eligible for credit cards because they only stay here for a couple months. WTF? Do public school and uni employees meet the requirements? |

I remember back home that you got money orders at the bank and they were only valid within the united states. So they might not even have them here.
You might wanna try mailing travelers checks back home. Although you'd have to sign them before you mailed them and so they'd be valid and stealable until they got there.
Or you could just mail cash.
Or you could pay the 15,000 won for 100% security in your international monetary transactions. |

Yes, we do, I got my card this week Signed up on the website, picked the card I wanted. They called me a couple days later (in English) and 3 days after that they arrived at my school with my shiny new card Was so much easier then dealing with any bank in Korea about any concern. Was very pleased. |

Just pay the extra 20,000 and wire it. Why risk sending via mail? Wired money usually arrives within hours if done properly. |

Yup...if you were to compare the number of ps/uni teachers who jump ship vs. the number of hagwon teachers who jump ship, you'd see why they feel it's a credit risk.
Says more about the haggy industry than it does about the teachers, if you ask me. |

Any bank will issue you a certified bank check , usually payable thru a foreign bank. Kookmin uses Citibank. |
