|
|
Just recieved what looks like a good job offer through a reputable recruiter (Kim and Joe) in Daegu. I have tried to find as much info about the place as I can, but it seems to be hard to get the low down on this place. It is a big city so there should be a bunch of info about the place. What are the upsides? What are the downsides (compared to Seoul, Busan, and Sokcho: The other places I have seriously considered)? Is there a strong expat community there ect?
Thanks in advance |

It's also famous for apples and having Korea's most humid and hot weather (At the foot of a mountain basin). |

I have seen the wiki, What I am looking for is imput from people who live or have lived there. What did you like about it, and what did you not like so much? The wiki doesn't seem to have a whole lot of info regarding the upsides or downsides of living there. |

I no longer live in Daegu - and I do miss the 'Gu already. The downtown is quite compact and there are a few foreigner bars if you are into that sort of thing, as well as more than a few crazy places (especially thinking about Jeng-yi right now, as well as some of the more famous jazz and blues bars) that are great to go to.
The Daegu chapter of KOTESOL is especially friendly and a good launching pad for making new friends (Korean and foreign) in Daegu.
If you are not totally Seoul-centric you will enjoy being in the middle of South Korea. If you move to Daegu; Seoul, Daejeon, Busan, Gyeongju and the beautiful southern coast are all easy to get to from there (Gwangju and the Jeolla provinces are not so easy to get to though).
My best advice though is to go for the job. Daegu is a GREAT place, but if you are offered a fantastic job somewhere else - go there! Wherever you go; Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu or Busan you will have a good time if you are the sort of person who can get out there and do stuff for yourself.
Good luck! |

Thanks Jinks, I have a feeling Daegu is a good place, Busan and Seoul also have an appeal for me as well, but I like the idea of being in a more central location. Another question is there any decent ski resorts there and is the weather decent in the winter compared to Busan or Seoul?

Here he is, folks, the one, the only, the ham-hugger from. . ., unable to spell-like me-or use correct grammar. . .but wait, is it me?
"Another question are. . ."
And look at the logic: ". . .any decent ski resorts there(Daegu?)"
Yet he's the final word when it comes to reasoning about being an English teacher. |

I assume your "another question are" remark refers to the fact that it "should" be "another question is." But if you aren't a retard and look at it in context, you'd notice that "are" is a part of the question itself. He should have written "another question: are there...?" and not "another question is there...?"

KOTESOL is a professional organisation for EFL teachers in Korea. The Daegu chapter meets on the 1st Saturday of the month (but not in August) at Kyungpook National University. The university is a cheap bus or taxi ride from either downtown or Dongdaegu station (go to the university's north gate). As well as interesting monthly workshops there are a variety of people to socialise with from the Daegu/Gyeonbuk area.
For more information check out the kotesol.org website |

Dude what is your problem? Sorry what are your problems? I never said I was the final word about anything especially teaching English. You must live a sad life spending your free time searching an internet forum for spelling or grammar mistakes and posting your own drivel using a name very similar to mine. And what exactly is a ham-hugger anyways?
Here's an example of Demaratusintw's logic and contribution to these forums. http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=86403&start=30&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

Yes there were grammatical errors. Sorry I wrote that post at the end of a 14 hour shift. |
