do you get treated differently compared to your fellow white teachers? and if you're not korean, can they tell right away? or do they assume you are korean and try to speak korean to you? just curious |

Of course I do, or did; first impressions. But I think a great deal of it depends on your personality, and how you truly treat your students. After awhile many of my students starting treating me like an older brother, figure so to speak.
At first, every student would ask me if I was Korean, "한국사람이에요?" over, and over, and over again. Since the day I arrived and to this day, new students would ask me that same question. I wonder if it's the black hair and brown eyes that would provoke that kind of question, har har.
All in all, it doesn't really bother me. I like fitting in on the outside. On the contrary, I too like to be seen as different. |

First question - no.
Second question - yes and no. some can, some can't.
Third question - yes, they do, but I just stare at them. |

I met this American korean last year who came here to meet his grandparents and some other long lost family members, and explore "his" culture.
After a week here he was so disgusted with korea he just flew home again. |

It's more like Korean-American, not American Korean. |

I'm surprised it took him as long as a week to make the decision to fly back to his true home. |
