| Don't work for Super ETS/Cais/Calvert School. Its one school with multiple names. Branches in Haeundae and Dongnae. Sorry, thats all the advice I can give. |

But, what are your credentials and experience??
When do you want to start working (this will determine where you can apply: Public School, University, Hakwons)?
What are your preferences (kids or Adults)? |

Hi,
I am also looking for a reputable school to work for in Busan. I prefer a public school, but I am willing to work in a Hogwan. Can anyone recommend any schools for me? I am looking to move to Korea in October or late September. |

My school is looking for a replacement for me. It is a public high school (all boys) and I was given all summer and winter vacation off (not that that is a 100% going to happen again). A great school with very friendly staff and Principal.

Assuming you work for a hagwon
Contract term:
(1) Contractual language specifying the precise date MONTH DAY, YEAR the contract commences on and terminates on.
(2) Contractual language stipulating "The employee will work and participate in work related activities for the employer when Korean Immigration Officials have issued the employee the appropriate work visa."
Paid sick leave: 5 days of paid sick leave
Bereavement leave: 7 days of bereavement leave
Income tax: Income tax is deducted according to a sliding scale and NOT a fixed percentage. I've advised many teachers to ask for "The employer will deduct income tax from the employee's monthly salary in accordance with Korean tax laws" to be written in their labor contracts.
Health Insurance: Enrollment into the National Health Insurance Plan is the law as of January 2006. It would be in your best interest to have, "The employer will enroll the employee into the National Health Insurance Plan within _____ days of the employee's entry into Korea." No mention of the National Health Insurance Plan in your labor contract is a red flag.
Immigration: When will your employer provide you with an Alien Registration Card? Get it written in the contract. Within 10 days upon issuance of your E-2 Visa is sufficient. You need your ARC before you enroll into the NHIP.
Pension: Your employer is required by law to pay into the National Pension Plan. In addition, your employer is required to deduct approximately 4.5% from your monthly salary and pay the contribution to the pension office. If there is no provision for pension in your labor contract, then it IS a red flag.
Severance Pay: The average of your last three months wages including overtime wages. Only income taxes may be deducted from severance pay.
Paid Annual Leave: Is there contractual language that specifies when and how you will take your paid annual leave? You ARE NOT entitled to 15 days of paid annual leave during you have not completed worked one full year at your place of employment. I've allready confirmed this with the labor office. No less than 10 days of paid annual leave. Also, what days do paid annual leave exclude? Some employers still pull the ol' 5 fixed plus 5 unfixed shit. They still declare "non-working days / academy holidays / irregular holidays"  and count them as paid annual leave.
Resignation: 30 days {This is plenty of time} written notification. It's also standard you reimburse your employer for the cost of the airfare if you resign before six months of employment and NOT after six months of employent. Get it written in the contract.
Termination: Your employer is required to issue you an Advance Notice of Dismissal 30 Days of Dismissal. This is the law. There are exceptions as noted in Articles 32 & 35 of the Labor Standards Act. You want your ANOD in writing as proof in the event your employer fired you without giving you 30 days notice before dismissal. This will help if you file a complaint at the Labor. Get it written in the contract your employer will notify you in writing.
Airfare: Round-trip
Salary: No LESS THAN 2,100,000 Korean Won per month. Avoid getting paid in cash and ask for a provision written in your contract stipulating your employer will deposit your monthly salary into your Korean bank account. The proof is in your bank book if you file at Labor for unpaid wages. Many employers pay on or by the 10th as this is normal. Accept no paydate later than the 10th.
Working hours: Working hours should definately be in your labor contract. More than 30 hours per week is excessive. Workdays should also be written in the contract. What days do workdays exclude? Get that written in the contract.
Housing:
Single & furnished with the following furnishings provided:
*fridge
*tv
*washingmachine
*air-conditioner
*bed and clean linen
*closet
*eating and cooking utensils
Housing allowance: Employers are notorious for offering crap housing allowances. Say for example 200,000 Korea Won. Ask for 350,000 Korean Won - 400,000 Korean Won.
