So for those of us just planning on hanging around Seoul for Chusok, does anyone have any suggestions for things besides getting drunk every night?

There is jack sh!t to do in Korea during Chuseok..absolutely NOTHING..
Be smart and leave Korea during the holiday and visit a country nearby.. Tickets for China are almost always available..
If you stay, don't say I didn't warn you... |

I am planning on going to the Phillipines. I have gone to Jeju in the past though and October is a great time to go there. Seoul isn't dead over Chuseok like other places either alot of the palaces etc. will still be open for tourists. If you want to just kick back in the sun and relax with a beer alot of people go out to Dok Jeok Do and camp out and party it up over Chuseok every year.

You better start egtting your tickets booked NOW. My travel agent only found one flight available for the Phillipines 2 weeks ago, and it was 800,000, with no hotel included. So, I am going with Tokyo for a little over 500,000. Still a bit steep. And I have to pay by July 30th.

Seoul is dead during Cheosuk. Maybe not if you don't live here but if you do you'd know the difference. That said, train tickets go on sale next week. Don't go by bus whatever you do, unless you like 12 hour bus rides. Japan Air tickets went on sale last weekend but a week's probably too long of a time to have waited for anything good (they had flights all over Asia for 500k last time I checked).
