Since I live in Colorado, USA where there is currently a ban on smoking, the ash trays at most places are beer bottles with a little bit of water at the bottom so you can quickly drop the cigarette in if a cop walks in the door, and there doesn't appear to be ash trays on the table. I find this "ash tray" works pretty well in general what with putting out the cigarette the moment it is dropped in, but the no place to rest the cigarette is a big hassle...

I like having a cigarette resting in an ash tray, and would prefer one that didn't have water in it...

I don't care about having a place to put the cigarette, but the coffee that I've seen a few places use is far less messy.

Dunno, but they were certainly in common use in Kuwait in the 70's.

I'm torn on this one. The wet ashtray makes sense if you're outside on a windy day, but not if you're inside and the ashes won't blow out.

I don't mind the wet ashtray, just as long as it's not phlegm that's the source of the wet.
