Buy yourself a motorbike or at the very least a car and go exploring. Beautiful country - but not many foreigners.

I'm not there yet. I will be moving there next month. Just want to hear some first-hand info from anyone who is living there, has lived there, has visited there, has accidentally gotten lost trying to get somewhere else and went through there...anything.

And yes, I do plan to get a car. Can't really haul my dogs around on a motorcycle/scooter or bags of groceries, so it's certainly going to be a car.

I'm American and from rural Oklahoma. When I was a kid, I once saw a giant ant hill and thought it was a mountain.

Mayberry of Korea....sounds PERFECT. I don't care about boring. I'm a boring person. I am a major homebody and despite living in Korea, pretty much only go out to walk the dogs, go to work, or go buy food.

E-Mart? That is something I've already checked out because they carry the whole wheat flour I like to use in my bread. What about the one in 태백? (Tae-baek) According to the E-mart website, there is one there. Is that information out of date? Regardless, flour is the only thing I ever buy there and I can always order it online from them.

Baskin Robbins, Lotteria, Dominos and Family Mart? That's disappointing to hear. Would have been nice to actually end up somewhere not contaminated by such stores, but oh well. I'm too excited to care that much.

A bike? Naaa...I don't mix well with bikes. On flat areas, I can usually handle quite a bit, but mountains? Going up and down and not to mention the thinner air....I don't breathe well enough for that. Have mild asthma. Love to go walking around and can't wait to be walking around where I can see grass. You've got grass there, right? Please say there is lots of grass! And trees! *drifts off with happy smile on face* Am so looking forward to see nature again! Have been in Seoul for 14 days short of one year now. I think I was ready to leave after a month! And a river!!! I saw on a county or maybe it was a city website that there is a river there! Water! I love seeing water! Why isn't there a jumping up and down with excitement smilie?????

And, I have to ask, now that I know there are several of you in the area...are any of you interested in dogsitting two dogs for a little over two weeks next month? I will pay! I will provide everything! Depending on what you want, I would bring stuff back from America or Seoul. If you aren't interested, do you know someone who might be? Korean or foreign? Just need dog lovers.

By the way, once I'm there, I will totally respect anyone who doesn't want to hang around or even talk to other foreigners. I can go either way and will not be offended in the slightest, so just let me know if you prefer to keep it to giving me info here only.

Andrew that is very interesting. Can you tell us more?

Are people quite friendly out there and enjoy you being there or do they just give you death stares and avoid you? Do the Koreans in the public schools want you there and genuinely enjoy your services or do they feel uncomfortable and dis you with xenophobia?

Do you ride a motorcycle around? What about banking and financial services availability?

I would venture to say that the kids might be a bit more respectful, less hyper, and much less rude than in the cities where they attend hagwons until 9 or 10PM.

Do you do any fishing with rod and reel out there? I'm in Gyeongsangnamdo province near the southern coast and find a few very small largemouth bass, but nothing spectacular yet. I know there is good fishing and beautiful country to enjoy in Korea, but getting to those places is the issue.
