For anyone who's ever read ORWELL they ought to easily recognize it as Korea's "VICTORY" GIN |

i stopped drinking soju altogether, just pay the extra $5 for a bottle of wine, as well as the advantages of not tasting horrible and giving you stomach cancer, it means you drink less cos you are going to think about spending $20 on getting boozed up than 5 |

Soju is not the enemy.
People who encourage you to binge drink with soju are the enemy. |

Soju was my enemy on Monday night. I have never been so drunk in my entire life. I was feeling fine, feeling fine, feeling fine, and then BAM. Out of nowhere, drunk out of my mind. It really crept up on me in the way that other forms of alcohol never have. |

Soju is like anything else. Just don't go nuts on the stuff. Moderation. I drink soju but I would never even consider drinking more than a bottle at any one time. Frankly, I don't know how these Korean guys spend an entire night drinking this stuff. That's gotta be bad for your health. It would certainly explain the vast quantities of vomit you see all over the place in this country. |

I have an old saying about soju.
Don't trust a foreigner who says they like soju. You don't know what else they're lying about. |

I disagree. After having lived here for many years, I find soju a nice accompaniment to samgyeopsal and other forms of barbecue, spicy foods like dalkkalbi, and raw fish. |

i've said it before, i'll say it again -
the reason why people get so killed by soju seems to be what my problem is.
first, you start with beer. you get a little tipsy on that.
then someone offers you some of the local crap. "shhhuuurrreee... i'll try that shtuff!"
and then you end up with a bad drink-mixing hangover.
it's like when you mix beer and gin. don't do it. |

I think most people treat soju with less respect than it deserves when they first arrive to Korea and see the alcohol content on the bottle.
'I can drink heaps of this!' 'Bah! It's like sugar water!'
Two bottles and 90 minutes later, you don't realize you just put almost 16 standard drinks in your system all too quickly.
It smells and tastes like shit, as is reflected in it's price. I agree with the 복분자 plug... A much nicer way to get your drink on if you want to keep it domestic. |

My limit is 1.5 bottles. One time I drank four.
I figure when I'm out with my friend we can share 2 bottles with sam gyeop sal and then go for one pitcher of beer somewhere else and then maybe get a can of beer each at a supermarket on the way home.
Then I don't feel bad the next day. |

I'm having a can of cold beer right now. Only because I have nothing else to drink and I'm thirsty. Start work in 2 hours.
But not soju. Ha! |
