What are your standards? If you are willing to stay in a modest (ac, cable, and clean) guesthouse close but not on the beach you can spend as little as $10 a night for accomodation in this season. Food is cheap, eat local as its better anyways. Booze is no cheaper than anywhere else. Depending n your standards Phuket can be done food/booze included for around $50 a day living well.

The sky's the limit - you could, in fact, spend that if you wanted to.

There are resorts on Phuket (and probably Pattaya) where that will get you only a couple night's stay.

So, it depends on the lifestyle you want to have.

Certainly, aside from lodging, a very good time can be had for less than US$50-60 a day. But, it is also very easy to spend several times that if you enjoy first class spas and great restaurants.

Up to you . . .

Plan on taking between
1000 $ and 1500$
Depends what you plan to do. You can rough it as a backpacker. Accomidation can be a bit tricky. Don't let the taxi driver help you find a room. Unless you don't mind paying a commision.

If you plan on renting out female companionship you will pay a lot more.
You can eat cheap 500-800 baht should get you a lobster dinner.
An average meal should go for between 60 and 100 baht
You pay more for farang food which goes for 100 baht -300 baht.

A room should go for between 300 baht cheap-1000 baht average
2000 baht luxery

A night out drinking varies. Go go bars are the most expensive. Regular restaurants and bars are cheaper.

Well i got a good deal on a hotel room for 640 bhat a night, its a good hotel and is discounted from 850 a night due to low season. I'll probably have a couple of big nights a week then just relax the other nights, ive never been to thailand so i don't really know what kinda money i'll be dropping but whether i do or don't bring cash home doesn't really worry me. 2 days to go!!! WOOOT

I see from another thread that you are staying in Kamala?

Areas north of - and away from - the tourist strip of Patong/Karon/Kata tend to be cheaper - so you'll do fine.

Kamala has lots of inexpensive restaurants. The best part of the beach is up on the north end - only an eight minute walk from the main beach - and well work it.

Lots of info about the Kamala area at:

My girlfriend was thinking that we'd only need 400,000 total for the 2 of us. I'm starting to think that this won't be enough, especially since she wants to get a couple of massages at a spa, go elephant riding, shopping, and we might rent a motorbike for a couple of days.

Not even close to being enough, you will need at least double that and probably closer to a million. Remember the Baht has become really strong recently so your exchange rate will not be great. Elephant trekking alone will probably be a few thousand Baht for a day. Check out www.phuket.com You will get an idea of some prices of things and check out www.xe.com to get exchange rate info.

You can get a quite decent one-hour massage for about B400 and up. At a major hotel VERY expensive (up to US$100 and more), at a small private salon - B400-1000, on the beach you're in the B400 range.

Motorbike rental: B150-200 per day.

Elephant Rides - about B400 and up depending on how long and from where.

Shopping? Ya got me - women can go through money like a shark through fat swimmers . . .

Whoops, can I say that?
