Anyone else renewing with their old public school been told that they have to redo the medical check and the criminal record check for their new contract?

My school insists that it is mandatory. I think it's unecessary.

I'm not opposed to getting them done again if I absolutely have to, but I would prefer to avoid the hassle if even remotely possible.

Has anyone else heard the same thing from their school?

If you were here for a year...how the hell could you commit a crime back home?

This sounds retarded. Then again applying for a new visa everytime when immigration has the info is retarded too.

PS teachers, Korean and foreign, are supposed to get a medical check up each year. Nows the time for many PS teachers.

Another background check? First I've heard of it.

Since you been in Korea all year long, get a Korean police check.

I believe it's free. Just walk into one of the police stations and ask for a police check.

You can do this when you're applying to another public school system as well.

I've never even had to provide a criminal record check! I was hired directly by my school, not through GEPIK; that's probably why.

As for the medical check, I did it the Korean way. They asked me about it in March. I told them I was busy and would go whenever I had time... never did and never heard anything about it.

I'm not sure about what Bibbitybop wrote. I think Korean teachers need to get a medical check every two years, not every year. Anyone else can confirm?

I ended up not having to do them again.

After the initial disagreement, my co-teacher said she would look into it. I signed my new contract and went to immi yesterday....so I'm guessing that it wasn't necessary after all.

I just asked my co-teacher about the medical examinations and she said that it was madatory for the Korean teachers to get them every two years.

The annual medical check is mandatory for all public school teachers. When I re-signed at my school I didn't have to get another police check. I think your co-teacher is confused.

I'd say about 99.99% of the time.

Either way, everything worked out with minimal stress or effort.
But thanks for letting me know. Very Happy

I am continuing with the same public school. I don't need a new visa, I just needed to apply for another 1-year extension on my existing visa.

I also made sure to get the multiple entry visa so that I won't have to in the future.

(thu_tinh, I'm acutally not going home during my vacation...my dad is coming here)
Very Happy
