I work at LG Philips from 8am to 3pm. I am scheduled for 3 -4 classes a day. Most of those classes are one on one with upper management guys. But due to their busy schedules, the students often cancel. There are many days I have only one class or even none at all - like today.
I have a desk and a computer. I chat on msn, write emails, make teaching materials, and read dave's mostly. After a few hours my eyes go mental from looking at this screen and there is just nothing left to read on dave's.
The time drags on and on. I'd rather be teaching, the time goes much faster.
Is anyone else's job this boring?
Yawn... |

I have a very very low threshhold of boredom. Your job would give me the opportunity to write, to study language, to pursue all the interests that I wouldn't have time to pursue otherwise.
Consider yourself lucky, and use the time to accomplish something! Hell, you're getting paid to learn, if you're so inclined - what could be better? |

Yeah, I know you're right. I usually read. I also bought a notebook a few weeks ago and started studying history from the internet. I felt like I was in high school again.
I think today I just have other things on my mind and I'm anxious to get out of here. |

I would love this job as it would give me more time to as BTM said...
.
This is an extremely flexible excercise as you can just put it down and pick it up at any time. |

I hear you, I hear you. Sometimes it's hard to get up the energy to do much but read forums and stuff.... |

i'm just curious, but how did you land that job? I imagine that even though you don't do many classes that you had to be pretty good to get that job. |

I do consider myself a good teacher. However, my qualifications are pretty average. I have a BSc and 1 year teaching experience in Korea.
I just found the job through a recruiter. I told the recruiter I wanted to teach adults and he gave me this offer. It's through a hagwan though. I work at LG, not for LG.
There are a lot of other foreign teachers here too, and this is just LG Philips LCD, not to mention the many other LG and other big companies.
My school alone has 4 native teachers between 3 factories. There is another school here too, they have 3 or 4 teachers as well.
The best part is. I'm done at 3pm and there's often extra classes at the hagwan (kids) for 20 000 an hour. So I usually end up with loads of overtime.
Moneywise, it's the best job I've ever had. It's just a little dull at times. I enjoy teaching, I feel pretty useless just sitting here all day.
Be real nice to me and I'll let you know when we have an opening |

I think I might have been offered some work recently through the same people as you, Howard (or at least their equivalent). Only downside was the visa, er, irregularities.
I won't ask directly if you're properly visa'd up...I know quite a few people working the chaebols through agencies that aren't, so if you are, that's cool. It does sound like you've got it good, though, mate, either way. |

Wow, I must have a pretty, off the charts high threshhold for boredom. Sometimes breathing can interest me. I daydream way too much. I have about 3 classes day and I find that I need about twice the class time alone doing really nothing to get my head back on straight. |

Er, I meant that it's really difficult for me to get bored. Would that be a high boredom threshold or a low one?
In other words, although it might be a stretch to say 'breathing can interest me,' I'm pretty darn hard to bore.... |

but the question should be "do others find you a bore?" |

More common reactions to my company include such favorites as :
a) fear
b) hilarity
c) unbridled lust (you know, amongst da wimmen)
d) excessive inebriation
e) bewilderment
f) annoyance
but almost never boredom, I think it's safe to say. |
