| If you're waiting for The Bobster to apologize or even feel bad about enjoying a drop or twelve in the evening, you're gonna be waiting a long time, little man. The real problem you have with me - aside from political disagreements about whether bombing people is either good or useful - is that I manage to make more sense at 4 in the morning when I'm high as a kite than you can manage to do any hour of the day. |
Another problem for the lush is false bravado. Give it a rest...the bottle, I mean. Oh, wait, you're in Korea, so you must feel right at home. |
steve, no one likes you. Be nice to people, and maybe they will. Why not have a beer? Oh, wait. That's right, I just remembered. Sometimes it makes people who are mean and ugly even more so ... forget I said anything. Except the part about no one likes you.

Aw, gosh, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Both Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts are totally lame. If they are in a good move, the movie is good in spite of them, not because ... Denzel and Will, I'll let someone else spread the news to you about them, cuz the news has been out there for a while.
Your thesis seems to be that black people in the entertainment biz make less than white people because they are not good at it and white people are. Gonna go off in the corner and think about that idea for a while ... okay, I'm finished thinking. It's a stupid thing to say. Take it back.
(Actually, I'm trying VERY hard not to giggle out loud right now.)

Terry Pluto: Isn't it time to look past skin color?
By Terry Pluto
So Derek Jeter is ``black and white... It's just you ain't all the way black.''
That's how Gary Sheffield characterized his former New York Yankees teammate.
Sheffield, now of the Detroit Tigers, is known for making outrageous statements, and he also has a book out, so drawing attention to himself might be part of the plan.
Sheffield made those comments to Andrea Kremer in an interview that aired Tuesday night on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. During the session, Sheffield accused manager Joe Torre of being tougher on black players. He basically said the Yankees manager is racist.
When it was mentioned that Torre loves Jeter, Sheffield dismissed that by critiquing Jeter's skin color. Jeter comes from a mixed marriage.
``The guy is just not thinking clearly,'' said Wayne Embry, the former Cavaliers general manager who now is a consultant with the Toronto Raptors.
Embry was the NBA's first black general manager.
``You can't have it both ways,'' Embry said. ``You can't say a person is black if they have `one ounce of black blood,' as they say on the street, then turn around and say what Sheffield did about Jeter.''
Then Embry let out a long, sad sigh.
``You'd like to think we're past all that,'' he said. ``It's one of those age-old things... ''
He meant back to the slavery days when the lighter-skinned slaves often worked in the house and those with darker skin picked cotton in the fields. It created a division between the groups.
Embry praised Jeter for ``taking the high road.'' Jeter refused to comment on Sheffield.
A few years ago, the Indians traded a few black players: Coco Crisp, Milton Bradley and Arthur Rhodes. I received e-mails from a few fans insisting the team was racist because C.C. Sabathia was the only black player left.
I replied that less than 10 percent of the players in Major League Baseball are African-Americans. That there's a major influx of Latinos and Asians, and that dressing rooms are now more racially diverse than ever.
I also mentioned that Grady Sizemore was from a mixed marriage.
Some replied that ``Sizemore didn't count.''
Not count as what? Black? White? As a human being?
Since then, the Indians have traded hot prospect in Kevin Kouzmanoff, white player, for promising black second baseman Josh Barfield. They called up Ben Francisco from the minors. Some might think he's ``mixed'' because of his name -- sounds a little Latino -- but he's an African-American from California.
Is that the best we can do? Look at a person's skin color and name, then throw him into a racial box, nailing the lid closed?
When I helped Lenny Wilkens write his autobiography, Unguarded, the former Cavs coach talked about being the product of a mixed marriage, about having one foot in two worlds.
There were times when he wasn't sure where belonged -- sort of stuck in a racial No Man's Land. He embraced his black heritage, and after a while, his racial identity was not an issue.
Embry mentioned a relative in his family, a little girl whose mother is black, whose father is Haitian and whose grandfather is Irish. In fact, Embry had trouble connecting all the racial dots. The girl came home one day from school upset because kids attacked her light skin.
Kids usually don't think about skin color until someone else makes it an issue. When I attended Benedictine High in Cleveland, about 35 percent of the enrollment was black. Many of those students were called ``Oreos'' by kids from their neighborhoods -- black on the outside, white on the inside. All because they attended a mostly white school.
That was more than 30 years ago, but I know it still happens today to some students. So in some eyes, it's not just your color, but do you ``act'' black enough? Are your friends black enough? Or Latino enough? Or whatever enough?
Isn't it time we all just said: Enough! |

No, you're very very wrong on your interpretation. Read my post again, Rehnquist. |

I don't what people say about Will Smith, but Denzel is the man. He hasn't done a bum role or picked a bum movie in 10 years, he's all quality, all class, all the time. He's really up there in place to take the flame from the real great heavy weights, De Niro and Pacino. If you think otherwise you clear are not a movie fan. |

Denzel Washington is almost always Denzel Washington. He can rarely shed his persona in a film. Man on Fire was a good performance, as was Glory. He has taken a few parts against type (John Q, Manchurian Candidate), but I just don't think those rang true. He is no heavyweight.
You are right about Pacino, though. Denzel's performance in Training Day was straight out of Pacino's hamstravaganza in Heat, the worst Pacino performance I've ever seen.
Forrest Whitaker is a heavyweight. Just about the whole cast of The Wire are heavyweights. I went too far to say Denzel's no good--he is, however, overrated. |

I think you're a tad harsh with Denzel, but you're right on the money with Forrest Whitaker. Have you seen Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland? His Edi Amin is eerie. |

I have not yet, but I've heard much along the same lines. It's in my Netflix queue. FW in Season 4+5 of The Shield is some of the best stuff I've seen in years. I would recommend it, but you'd have to get thru 1-3 as well, which is time consuming--but worth it.
Also, I realize that I'm pretty much on my own here on Denzel--nobody else seems to agree with me on this. Such is life. |

Yeah, pretty amazing acting. I also am blown away by the writing. I mean sure, those actors are damn good, but someone has to give them a script to help develop their characters.
not to totally digress from the OP or anything. |
