I am staying with a Korean family in Seoul now, for about another month. On Aug. 26th I will be going to Japan for a little while. The family will take me to the airport and I plan to just take all my things with me.

My flight back to the U.S. (on Singapore Air) in at 5:50 pm on Sept. 4. So, so as to avoid coming back into Seoul again (and causing anymore hassle again to the host family or other friends), my idea was to return to Incheon from Tokyo earlier in the day on Sept. 4, and then fly out of Korea that evening.

Here's my question: I am looking at two tickets- the one I prefer (cheaper and with a travel agent I trust) gets me into Incheon at 1:35 that afternoon. Another ticket (slightly more expensive and with a travel agent I haven't worked with) gets me in at 12:30 that afternoon. There are no earlier tickets.

1) Is this allowing enough time to transfer at Incheon? (And will an extra hour make much difference?) Would it be better to return to Korea on Sept. 3 and stay in an airport hotel?
2) If this is likely to be enough time, should I notify Singapore airlines to tell them that I will be transfering from another flight?

Thanks for your advice!

Either of those tickets should give you enough time. On a bad, bad day, you may spend 2 hours thru Korean immigration, customs and baggage, so finishing at 3:20 would give you over 2 hours to make your next flight.

If you are flying into Incheon and then out again within 24 hours you can check your bags from your initial checkin in Japan to your final destination in the US and NOT "enter" Korea through immigration and customs.

Walk off your flight from Japan to Incheon and look for the TRANSFER desk BEFORE you go through passport control.

They will run you through a quick security check again and then send you upstairs to the departure lounge to board your next flight. Process takes about 20 minutes from deplaning to upstairs (depending on the lineup at the transfer desk).

You should be fine with the flight of your choice. (Both are fine for timing).

This is what I was thinking, but if he taking a completely non-related flight, won't he have to check-in before transferring?

If he shows the 2nd ticket at checkin time he should be allowed to check it straight through.
