Well, since there's usually so much negative stuff posted about Koreans in these forums, I thought I should take the opportunity (after watching most of the last round of the Jamie Farr Open due to insomnia) of posting something positive about their most accomplished and well-liked personality on the international sports scene: Pak Se Ri.

She was the first of the parade of successful Korean women golfers on the LPGA tour, and she recently qualified as the youngest to be admitted to the Hall of Fame.

She displayed world-class poise and determination in fighting off the solid challenge of a young American (Morgan Pressel) who had managed to take a three shot lead after scoring a hole-in-one. On the same hole, Se Ri fought back by sinking a long birdie put.

Pak continued to make some clutch great shots and won going away (by 3) at 17 under par, making her only the third player to win the same tournament five times.

Personality-wise, she is definitely a good role model for younger players (like Michelle Wie ...) Here's a description of her by someone on her website:

No matter how she does, she is always pleasant and happy. She never complains about bad breaks or unfair situations, chalking it up to the way golf is. And she always respects her opponents, never trash talking. She works harder than you could imagine. And she has a wonderful smile and giggly personality. Se Ri rules!

Well, she was probably smiling on the inside when that photo was taken (actually she looks better when she doesn't show her teeth - with her money she probably should consider having them capped like most of the Hollywood actors do ...)

It would not be an exageration to say she deserves Korea's "Sportsperson of the Last 10 Years" award, if there was such a thing. In the late nineties, she was all alone in the LPGA in terms of representing Korea. Now look at the next generation of Korean women golfers- Kim Mi Hyun, Park Jee Un (Grace Park), Ahn Shi Hyun, etc..
And Park Se Ri led the way and is still going strong.

It truly is amazing to follow the LPGA and to see how Korean women consistently dominate it! I mean mega-dominate it. The top 50 is dominated by Koreans. In saying that I mean those of Korean heritage, not all are Korean citizens. On the PGA side, Korean men in the top 50 are very few.

When it comes to sports it seems Korean women far outshine the Korean men. Look at the Asian games or Olympics.

Mainly, it's thought to be due to the military service requirement and to the fact that Korean males have traditionally had to support famiily members, while young women were freer to take chances with their careers.

Also, it's reasoned that Korean men are more at a disadvantage in terms of size than Korean women are.
