|
|
Let me understand this (yes, I'm being facetious), still, we have a Canadian on a 6 month vacation in the monkey house for obtaining a visa fraudulently by submitting phony college documents.
And then a well known korean woman submits fakes degree from Yale and Kansas to some university in korea and lands a job has a curator and nothing happens and today, another well known korean also admits to having phony degrees and yet.no jail?!
What's my point? Simple. If you are a foreigner, don't get caught.
Heres the story.
http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200707/200707190017.html
The host of KBS Radios popular English lecture program Good Morning Pops lied about having a bachelor and masters degree from an overseas university. The star English teacher Lee Ji-young is technically only a high school graduate. She has hosted the radio show since 2000.
Lee came to fame as a star private English tutor, claiming that after moving to the U.K. as a middle school senior, she graduated from the University of Brighton and completed a masters course in linguistics there. She lectured in the Foreign Language Institute of Yonsei University.
But Lee on Wednesday told the Chosun Ilbo that her academic background was invented. After graduating from elementary, middle and high schools in her hometown of Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province, she enrolled at Suncheon University, where she rarely attended classes, and studied to enter other universities in Seoul. But she failed to win admission to a Seoul university for three years running and actually never got a college degree. She did go to Britain in 1990 for a one-year language program in Hove, a small town near Brighton, before attending a polytechnic in Brighton for a year.
However, she used a falsified academic background to promote her status as an English instructor, claiming in a book and interviews to have a masters degree from the University of Brighton. KBS treated Lee as a star, giving her an award in 2004 in recognition of her contribution with the program Lee Ji-youngs Easy English.
When I was offered work as the host of Good Morning Pops, KBS asked me to submit a diploma. But my predecessor suddenly quit and I had to hurriedly take over the job, Lee said. The producer of the show says he had no reason to doubt Lees academic qualifications, since she performed the job without problems for seven years.

But there is a difference between lying to an employer to gain a position and lying to a governmental dept. concerning the legal requirements set out to fulfill the position applied for. |

I think you will see more and more of this. Koreans lying about there degree's oversea's. Alot go on a tourist visa for 6 months in Canada and say they are gyopo's.
Others say they are grads of Universities in North America so they don't have to work for 5000 won an hour. But we are the bad ones that come here for sex and money? |

If they added all the wangjangnim's that pay thier employees extra to take assessment English tests and degrees for them, it would be an even bigger problem.
But really. Is anyone on this forum one bit surprised? |

Gyopos and ethnic Korean adoptees are among the biggest liars in Korea about academic background, mainly because they are more likely to get away with it.
I guess this Lee imposter 'fessed up after the other scandal broke out, and she knew her days were numbered. |

She was a state rep in Texas who was running for Railroad Commissoner after being appointed to the job by gov Ann RIchards in 1991 (very powerful job as it regulates the awl biddness), she bragged she was a Phi Beta Kappa grad of UT, well it turned out it was all fake, she didnt get any jail time but she got killed in the election and really cant get a job above burger jockey |

Yeah obtaining a working visa using false information is treated far more seriously in any nation than lying to an employer. It just ain't Korea. However, the woman has clearly committed fraud and enriched herself as a result. I'm sure she could still face prosecution.
I heard she had a chaebol head in her pocket protecting her. Lots of people knew she was full of it but didn't dare go over her head. Much like the stem cell doc.
Anyway, yeah, it's a bit like that Korean girl who was living at Princeton or something in the dorms claiming she was a student. She couldn't fess up to her parents she bombed out of school. The pressure is on and they'll do whatever it takes to make the 'rents happy. |

Speaking of that particular fraud.... The chubby one's portrayal of the "apology" had me in stitches the first time I saw it. By the way, who is the girl on the viewer's right at the beginning of this skit?

My apologies for being pedantic; however, the original was a bit of a rough read. |
