Seconded here. I teach at a well known company and some of the nicest guys with kids you think to yourself, "no way this guy cheats." Next time we're out together it's off to the Norae Bong with paid hostesses and they're the worst ones, going down the woman's shirt, grabbing the hand of girl near me and putting it on my *beep*.
Talk to the wives, many, many have lovers on the side. There are "special cheating clubs" they go to. |
It's not cheating if it's okayed. Some of you have archaic views on relationships.
I've met Korean girls who say it's fine by them if their husband/boyfriend goes off to whores, some even encouraged it. If it's approved by the wife then it's not cheating. The Korean couple that I know the best are honest about it all and have an open relationship. While I'm sure there's a little deceit in some other Korean relationships, there seems to be an unspoken acknowledgment of each other's flings/things on the side. |

Not everyone, but based on some published estimates, 70% of Korean men have visited what could be described as sex workers. Seems high, but then again, not everyone who goes to a room salon as sex with one of the hostesses. I'm sure that if you considered a stripper as a sex worker, the numbers would probably be just as high back home.
As for safe sex, or the lack thereof, Korea has a very high rate of hepatitis B (10% of the population are chronically infected, as a matter of fact). But, it is preventable with a vaccine...or a condom, of course. |
Where did you find statistics like that? |
thanks |

Surely, you don't believe a Korean woman only has enough sex to make some babies, do you? There are many Korean girls who sleep around. Trust me. I've seen it. I used to be friends with this one k-girl who worked at Club DD in Hongdae and she was 22 and alredy slept with 5 guys. She made jokes to me about her Canadian boyfriend who was back in Canada for 6 months. She said before he comes back to Korea, I've got to clean up the guys....hahaha...Korean women are not THAT innocent. |
The women you see having sex does not mean they are having sex on the same level as the men at all. Look at smoking for example. So many women smoke in secret, and you know that and that is just the attitude towards smoking never mind sex. You know the Korean girls who are rebellious towards the traditional culture. I said changes have been made, but I also know Korean women who like wouldn't kiss their boyfriend until after some dates. By the way, I have also seen plenty of Korean women run home from a bar to make their curfew. This is not a liberal society. I didn't see the men rushing home. I think that should tell you something.
By the way, Spanish women in Europe are one of the most conservative women when compared to many other Europeans, so if I meet some Spanish girls who quickly share a bed with someone it wouldn't change that overall there is a strong conservative streak among the females.
In summary, Korean attitudes towards female sexuality plays a role in this and the old traditional views are still alive. |
I can understand your points, but a few weeks ago, I was in a bar over in Shinsa, and 2 Korean girls had to be carried out on someone's back they were so drunk. One girl was there with 2 other girls, so one of the bartenders had to get the other bartenders to help hoist her up on his back so they could leave. The same night another girl was carried out on her boyfriend's back. I guess they didn't have curfews or they broke them. The same night, another Korean girl came in there with about 3 guys and anothe girl and she was already wasted when she got there. I guess they'd been drinking somewhere else. Pretty trashy if you ask me. |

Not that I think Korean women are innocents, but I think basing your entire opinion of them on the bar hos you hang with is not a good idea. |
Yuck! I don't hang with bar hos. We are not friends anymore 'cause I found out what she was really like-_- |

Unfortunately K-men have long had the situation sewn up in this country. Subjugation of women into subordinate and less advantaged roles is unfortunately a reality they have even fooled the women into accepting as correct. |
What's also sad is all the lying and deception. So many of these university age girls will spend a few years making a lot of money on their backs. Then the day comes when they realize that they have to start searching for that high potential husband that is an up and coming exec at Samsung or Hyundai. When they do find him, they will always have to carefully guard the secret that they were a prostitute for a few years. Korean men have no problems shagging hot young prostitutes but there is no way in hell they would ever marry one. And the biggest irony.....once they do get married and have a kid or two, he will be out shagging other young prostitutes who are doing exactly what she used to do. |

Man, pretty dangerous stuff. This is one country where young girls should not be getting that wasted. Rape is already a huge problem in this country without these girls making it easier for predators by getting fall down drunk. Sorry if that sounds a bit sexist, but it's the reality of Korea. |

OK maybe you don't hang out with them, but the post right before this was still all about girls at bars. Which means you only reinforced twg's point... |

I work at a very large and well known Korean company. 90% of the men that I work with cheat on their wives with prostitutes. Here's the drill: We go out for dinner with the team. After dinner, we go to "round 2" beer and anju. After "round 2" the women go home and the men continue to "round 3" - whiskey and Ho bags. And NO, I haven't yet joined them, although I've really, really wanted to more than a few times when my wife was being a BIATCH, but I didn't... -maybe coz my wife is also a HOTTY...
These things happen. |

Is it a wonder, when many Koreans these days STILL don't marry for love/attraction/chemistry. That's what happens when your marriage is based on "Oh, he's ugly, but he has money", or "Oh, she's not nice, but her family will get me a job at their company" kind of marriages? A coworker of mine even knows a married couple here, where the hubby constantly calls his wife ugly. He married her because her family is rich. He comes from a poor family, but she married him because he will become a doctor. |

hahaha...I find this one very funny! What you throw out there always comes home to you eventually. these same men who prance around saying it's OK to go to hookers, and how they'd never marry one, probably have one at home that they are married to and just don't know it. hahaha! Serves them right! |

| So strange. In one of my private lessons today the student told me about the drinking/salon culture. She's only 16(korean age) and just heard about it today from her friends. She was really disappointed and disgusted and told me stories of men who didn't like the male culture so they had to quit their jobs or even move to another country! We talked about how it must have been difficult for them constantly feeling pressure from their peer group. We also talked about marriage in Korea...her cousin is getting married to a fat, ugly girl. Awwww....she wondered why women would ever get married in the first place. We both wondered about it. |

The fat, ugly girl probably has a rich family. Quite sad actually, for both parties. |

Why is it sad? Feeling in love doesn't last forever, so once that feeling's gone how does a relationship stay together? When a marriage is made as a partnership between two families it's much easier to stay together as a symbiotic relationship. East Asia, where the second type of marriage is more common, has lower divorce rates. There could be other factors but it seems to me that living as housemates while sharing expenses wouldn't be that hard to deal with. |
