| Surface to Perth took about 10 weeks, and because no one was around to sign off, it was kept at the post. |

Where it will be delivered to will depend on what normally happens with parcels sent to that address ... They will usually try to deliver it ... and if no one is there then hold it at the most office for a certain amount of time ...
Is surface mail still available from Korea to Australia?
I know that it is not available from Australia to Korea. I have only sent one parcel in the time that I have been here ... (even if that one was a big combined one) ... and it did need to get there reasonably fast ... so I sent it by airmail ... (But not the EMS express airmail which costs a lot more) One thing that I learnt in the process was that mail in general including parcel airmail is very much cheaper from Korea than it is from Australia ... Even if surface mail was available it is worthwhile looking at the difference in price between the two vs the extra time it will take ... and see if it is worth paying the extra ...

sirfro: I was told sea mail would take 2 to 3 months. 10 weeks (or thereabouts) sounds much, much better (and likely).
icicle: in all likelihood, it'll be held at a post office for pick-up. In that event, do you know if only the addressee can pick up the parcel? I think you're right about no sea mail from Australia to Korea. |

I have to do this too; basically send almost everything I own to Melbourne, soon... How expensive is it compared to sending stuff to the USA? |

This is the address of the korean post office which will tell you the actual cost for what you need to send. Includes English version of the site.

Comparing costs to Australia and the US here are a couple of examples.
For Surface (sea) mail the cost is the same to both. They are both in Zone 3.
Cost of sending 10kg parcel = 28,000 won
Cost of sending 20kg parcel = 48,000 won
For airmail it is cheaper to send the parcel to Australia than to the US.
Cost of sending 10kg parcel Australia = 72,100 won
Cost of sending 10kg parcel US = 96,500 won
Cost of sending 20kg parcel Australia = 134,000 won
Cost of sending 20kg parcel US = 182,500 won
