I'm just curious how many people out there have to stay at their schools all day during summer camp. OR do you only stay for your morning classes? This will be my fourth camp and my school has always made me stay until 4:30. I'm at an elementary school.

I don't want to confuse the issue, but I have both "summer camp" and "summer school" classes.
Summer classes at my school are called summer school. I teach them in the morning and go home in the afternoon.
Camp is when I teach somewhere other than at my school and includes more camp-type activities than regular classes. My camp is in another city and so I'll be at camp 24 hours a day for the duration of the camp.

I guess it's different at every school. We call our summer classes "camp". So, I'm referring to summer classes.

I have to do 9:00-12:10 (4 - 40 min classes) and I wouldn't call them "camp" as I had suggested to my school that we play sports, and do summer activities... but they said "no" and to teach books. I don't call that camp. Definitely more like summer school.

I also have to go away for 5 days and stay overnight at some place far away from my school. That one is more "camp-like" although they changed the curriculum to more "book-based" study... so I dunno how "camp-like" it will be this time. Apparently, the parents complained that the students weren't speaking enough English... or learning enough... or something.

But I think the parents need to realise the kids won't leave camp speaking perfect English. Let the kids just have fun, and if they learn a bit of English along the way, then cool!

And you still have to stay until 4:30? Jeeze. Just tell them you have some important errands to run. Do you think they'd fire you?

I am in Gimpo, too, and my school has said nothing about staying all day. In fact, they went out of their way to tell me I would have afternoons off. I think that is just your school trying to blame their decision on Gimpo board rather than own up to it. Of course, I have had this same schedule for the past two years also.

I really think it's totally up to the school (principal) if they give you the afternoons off or not. All the foreigners I know in the other schools in my neck of the woods all go home at 12:30. Anyway, a contract is a contract. I signed it. 6 more weeks and I'm done. At least it'll give me some time to work on my TEFL course.
