Has anyone else tried this - giving whatever teacher's planning the summer schedule a list of students you'd like in your camp class? I tried it this year and while there were a couple of changes to the list I made I ended up with ten of the most lovely students you could have the joy of teaching. I took them out to lunch today after the last day of 'camp' and as we were getting ready to leave one of them spontaneously called everyone to 'attention! ... bow!' and they all sang out 'thank-you sir!' and thus ended one of the best weeks I've ever had teaching.
If you have any opportunity to plan your own summer / winter break courses I'd strongly recommend giving it a try. |

If only it worked that way...
I get 20 kids, from 20 different schools, who show up and meet each other and me for the first time next Monday. |

| My students from my after school classes have first dibs on camp spots. All the other spots are open. I don't really feel as if I have to request kids. I get a good mix. I did have to request that one kid NOT attend the camp but that's because he's a poisonous gas cloud of smug English speaking superiority and cattiness...I don't need that at a camp... |
