Being filmed in class, is it right? By this I don't mean those 'security monitoring films', or surveillance. I mean one hour of a hand-held camera, or actual, 'unsecured footage.'

Don't know where these films are going either, nor exactly what they're doing filming me.

At first I'd thought it was just for monitoring, to point out my mistakes. Four months later, still no reason as to why.

Can see from the expressions of my co-workers they're important(screwed up looks, stress building.)

But hey, I'm practicing my acting, making good, ie., goofy faces in the camera, purposeful mistakes, butt picking.

I don't know, but next time I get filmed, I'm going to ask for a copy. Would be great to send that along with a resume next time I'm job hunting. Very Happy

I wouldn't be surprised if you star in a new series of Speak-ee the English-ee DVDs, set for release a week after your contract is up.

My company in Japan does it. It is very very useful for analysing what works and what doesn`t in a teaching situation.

Yea, it happens. It is a compliment in that they do find you a valuable teacher and maybe a very attractive one at that as image is very important here.

I believe it is true that if they want you in pictures and video, then they value you, but if they try to hide from situations like that, then they think you are ugly and lack value. I also notice that the fat teacher is excluded from pictures and field trips where pics happen most often. Correct me if I am wrong and please clarify what the deal is with filming all the time. My school hires a professional photographer about once a week while they have their own video cam and other cams. I will admit, I am not highly experienced with Korean culture and do not know it all.

I would guess that cameras are seen here as memory experience devices, rather than just photography. I know that's totally a geekoid answer, but geek stuff and ideas are all the rage here. Smile

Some schools, even small ones, have websites that parents can access and see short scenes of their kids in the class room. It's a form of PR. That might be what is going on. Many of our contracts include a clause that our image can be used by the school for any purpose without further remuneration. Like I said, that MIGHT be it.

I would consider toughing it out, and then finding a job where the employer doesn't treat you like a caged monkey.

Until that point, just be sure to iron your shirt. (And don't wear the one with the yellow deodorant/sweat stains.)
