Funny how when a native teacher is caught with a forged degree certain people will rally around him and support him.
It's even funnier when the same people attack a KOREAN for doing the exact same thing.
Hmm... |

Was it really the exact same people? |

I just read a bit of that thread. I didn't really see anyone "supporting" the guy, I just saw arguments about whether the punishment fit the crime. |

| I think it would be "funny" to see the opposite. Korean professors rallying around a sentenced Korean professor and pointing out the irony of an English teacher who gets a dismissal only. |

Guess that depends on your definition of support. A few didn't see any problem with arguing that a Korean committing a similar offense should be jailed. |

Ok!
Edit: But, you did say it was the same people...Who are they? |

They should have just put the guy in time-out.
Have him hold a chair over his head with his eyes closed until he cried, or something... |

The title of this thread at this time is "On hypocrisy and white-ism."
What evidence does the OP have that the native teacher whom was arrested was "white," and what evidence does the OP have that the posters that allegedly made hypocritical comments are "white?"
Perhaps this thread should be titled: "On hypocrisy and anti-white-ism." |

Actually Fresh Prince,
Unless I am mistaken, Urban is talking about the big double standard that often prevails on this board when it comes to Foreign teachers and Koreans and comments made by users.
If a Foreign teacher is arrested (even when it is because that person broke the law) he or she will usually get a bunch of support from the peanut gallery here. Any type of discrimination (real or imagined/invented) towards foreigners is posted here and starts a frenzy of Korea bashing...on and on.
On the other hand, if something is posted about a Korean committing a crime, then the jury and executioner come out. No trial needed: he is Korean therefore he deserves it. Then a lot of gutter-type racism comes out but it is usually disguised as social commentary or just as "hey its just a general comment". You want examples, peruse this board and look into threads that discuss Korea and Koreans. Check out nearly any thread about Korean men, Korean employers, Korean parents....
Big double standard there. |

| I haven't been following either case, but shouldn't the punishment in both cases by about the same give or take a few months based on mitigating factors? Is that not what happened??? I am going to have to check this out now. |

But there is no double standard because there is no standard. People have different opinions and post them here, but that does not represent the community at large.
Unless he can point out instances of the "same people" saying the Canadian should get a free pass but the Korean should get punishment, I don't think TheUrbanMyth has done anything other than overgeneralize and stereotype. |

Can you show the contrast with the same people?
Some people said the korean should be jailed and some people said the foreigner deserved what he got. Quite a few did.
If it were the same people taking the double standard, then you'd have a point.
And Homer...
I have never noticed any rally of support for a foreigner breaking a law. Unless you consider all those who rightfully point out that korean break the same laws and are treated differently. |

Homer actually agrees with the people who point that out, but he has to play devil's advocate because he likes to use the expression 'pay the piper'. |

I don't think anyone necessarily *rallied* around that guy. But the fact that those Koreans ARE NOT GOING TO F'ING JAIL is ridiculous. It's the same damned crime. |
