Foreigners who refuse to learn Korean, generally do not have fun in Korea.
True or false? your thoughts. |

| They may certainly have fun, but they are much less likely to have fun with local Koreans. |

yes. so if they don't learn korean, then why complain about koreans?
i mean, imagine if a korean went to england, refused to learn english, and made money teaching korean, and talked and complained about english people like there is no tomorrow?
doesn't that just sound absurd? i think some people in dave's esl live in a parallel universe, or were just too spoiled as children or have used too many things as a crutch in their lives. |

yeah they probably wouldn't want to learn korean.
in case your iq is not capable of registering the parallel in foreigner's complaining, then i suggest you use sarcasm to cover it up. |

The problem is lack of motivation.
Koreans generally study English for career goals. More shots at getting a higher paying job = great motivation to study English.
Foreigners study Korean as a hobby.
Some foreign men might study it to meet Korean women.
But few would see learning Korean as important to their future (unless they want to marry a Korean or settle down in Korea). Most foreigners see Korea as a 1 - 2 year stay.
That said, I think it would help our relations if foreigners learned some basic Korean. |

| Isn't there a difference between can't and won't? Korean is a HELLISHLY complex language for a rather usless language. Learn Mandarin, talk to oh 500,000,000 people. Learn Japanese and talk to 120,000,000 people, and one of america's biggest business partners. Learn Korean and you can talk to what? 40,000,000 people tops? |

so why not go to china or japan to teach english, and learn a more global language as well??? (altho most chinese want to learn korean, over english )
see? it doesn't make sense any way u cut it, if you live and stay in korea and refuse to learn korean at all, you can't complain because you CHOOSE to live disharmoniously with your environment. |

Go read the recent article posted here about Koreans living in the Philippines and how they have imported everything Korean down there and generally do not integrate. Now you have your parallel.
Oh yeah, and how many first generation Korean immigrants to the west don't speak English? Heaps. Go back to getting hysterical about the nomenclature of the Sea of Japan or the ownership of the Liancourt rocks, you pathetic little VANKer.
