|
|
I noticed this many years ago. I'm sure many people have. Most of us probably have categories for spending money, though we may not be fully aware of this. It's actually pretty foolish how sometimes we go out our way to save a dollar and other times practically throw cash away. "Pound foolish, penny wise" often applies.
When shopping for necessities, like groceries, we look at something and go hmm, I can get that 10% cheaper elsewhere. The total bill may be $100 or whatever, so maybe we can save $10 with careful choices. Later that night we're in the who cares category because we're out with friends eating and drinking and taking taxis. That $10 is nothing now, as we spend a good chunk without a care.
Why are we so strange about this? Any other "categories" you can think of? |

You should study Microeconomics and write a paper about it .
It has to do with values, values are circumstantial.
When you are shopping, you are more focused on your purchasing, but when you party with friends, skimming on money makes you look bad.
So those 10 dollars have a different valuation. |

That makes sense Juregen. I always just thought of it as situational spending. |
