Just wondered about the consequences of running... I've heard different theories... being banned totally for a year, meaning can't even visit, being banned from working for three months... Is there some list where all of the runners' names end up? Just wondering how it works. Will I ever be able to work in Korea again and if so, how long after I run can I return? Does anyone know the facts?

Running is serious, serious business in Korea. If you break your
contract you could wind up in an immigration lock-up, local police
station or even worse, prison. The least they will do is set-up an
exit order so that you can not leave the country. If you try you
will be arrested at Incheon Airport and deposited in one of several
notorious gaols designed for people like you. Once there you
will be subjected to extreme forms of interrogation and coercion
designed to break you into the grovelling worm you are.

Or, it could be that teaching is just a job and you can leave any
time you want. You could also follow the local labour laws and
give something like 3 weeks notice.

Sometimes when you run, you get all sweaty and short of breath.

Lots of people just leave and if that happens then there's no consequences. My hagwon has been doing some illegal activity in my name and I don't think they deserve the right to be told. I think I just want to go.

Dude, OK, if you think you are being exploited or are being forced
into illegal activity there is a help line for foreigners. I'm not sure
what it is, check the stickies or post a question. But seriously, act
first, keep records and preferably keep paperwork. But don't worry,
you can leave with no strings if you plan, stay open with immigration
and KEEP RECORDS.
