Lord of the Rings was hugely popular in Korea.

Anyone watching could or having a rudimentary knowledge of JRR Tolkien's literature knows that the Orcs represent blacks and monogloids.

However many Koreans did like King Kong. As we all know, in the early days of Hollywood, King Kong was representative of the black man who ravages white women.

^ Hollywood spreads negative stereotypes about blacks and hispanics, all over the world, not just America.

Personally, I don't think anyone would get that from watching Gorilla King Kong, or reading "Lord of the Rings".

Why try to create a racial issue where one does not exist???

Hollywood does sometimes portray blacks, Hispanics and other minorities negatively. But not in King Kong or Lord of the Rings. Use some better exampoles, man.

From LOTR's beginnings the interpretation has been that Orcs are Nazis.

here is Tolkien's writings himself

Quote:
Tolkien describes Orcs explicitly in one of his Letters:

...they are (or were) squat, broad, flat-nosed, sallow-skinned, with wide mouths and slant eyes; in fact degraded and repulsive versions of the (to Europeans) least lovely Mongol-types.

I'm aware of what Tolkein intended. But it never came through in the reading of the books, and was lost entirely in Peter Jackson's movies.

Sounds like some of the men in my neighborhood.

Just kidding!

Seriously though, what's your point? That media perpetuates stereotypes? Troll.

I think both of those assumptions are stretching just a little too much. If that's what Koreans get out of the stereotypes that's one thing, but if nobody says anything and you're assuming they do because you think people could believe King Kong is a black man, maybe it's your own beliefs you should examine.

Tolkien was also an Anglo-Saxon scholar.

Maybe the Orcs come from Grendel in Beowulf?
