This whole forum can be my concern if I choose, so its actually you who is acting like a butthead here. What is your part in this discussion anyways?

I am not acting superior, you are acting inferior. Your defensiveness is telling.

Ah, the list. I tell ya, that list is a beautiful thing, but I think it's lost on you. Heck, you think bringing it up is some kind of sore spot... Rolling Eyes

This makes no sense whatsoever. It is clear that you believe you can make anything your concern, including transactions that don't involve you. Bully for you. But I'm not sure how I am butting in here. I am not defending myself either. I'm not trying to sell opened boxes of soap or paperback books or anything like that. I'm defending everyone's right to do with their possesions what they choose. I am surprised this sort of defense is even necessary.

I'm the umbrella seller. sorry. I had priced so many things super low. People were happy. Just wasn't thinking too much when I priced the umbrellas.

As for other prices, I'm super happy if someone makes a reasonable offer. hell - make an unreasonable offer or come buy a few items then get a few items for free.

Perhaps five thousand won for all ten umbrellas that you can then use to beat the crapola outa someone who accidentally prices their items too high. hell _ i'll give them all to you for free if you promise to do that.

End word - I have lotsa stuff to clear out. I've given stuff away to a few friends but most are away this Summer. I don't want to throw good stuff away. Thats so so...Korean. (Oops - delete that)

hey is the pencil still available??

actually I have BOXES of stationery crap. More pens, pencils than you;d need in a childrens PLS (hagwon). And lot of clothes, jackets etc.

what does one do with all this cheap, used but usable shite when leaving? Just turf it? Use it to stab people overpricing similar crapola?

My environmentally friendly grandmother would turn in her grave. Oh well.

While I agree that there are some overpriced items here, there are a few things I disagree with, mostly computers being priced to high.(I am still trying to sell my old computer)

Outside of Korea, yeah these things would be priced way too high, but many things cost significantly more here. If it wasn't a pain in the ass to get a credit card or a visa debit card, I'd buy most of my expensive stuff online, but that isn't much of an option for me or many other people here. If someone sells a laptop for less than what they purchased it for, then it's not really that greedy or dishonest. Most people sell computers so that they can buy a new one. A computer that costs $1,000 in the U.S., costs $1500(1,500,000won) here. Why sell something for what it's worth outside Korea, when you plan on buying in Korea?

Yes, if you look around obscure shops in yongsan, know the good korean websites for buying things, and are lucky, you can find better deals than what's here, but in Korea, most of these things are priced fairly.

Additionally, most people haggle prices. If someone posts something that costs more than what you want to pay, most people will offer less. If 200 is as low as you will go, then why not post a higher price? If you say 200, you'll get offers for 100.

And selling small household goods for under 10,000 is pretty stupid. Yes, you want to reduce waste, yes you'll save someone 2,000 won, but come on. There are much more worthwhile means of saving the environment and money than by going across the country to buy a plunger. I guess my only real problem with people selling this sort of stuff here is that it clutters up the board with stuff that no one cares about. If I want to buy or sell a computer, tv, bike or anything of value, it's rather tedious to scroll through posts which are selling completely worthless crap.

I disagree. More often than not I will make an offer that I think is fair only to hear, "Look, it's 200 okay? That's the price I put on it. Mmm, okay, I'll go down to 185."

By this time I've already decided not to buy.

It's not a bad thing to sell things for less than 10,000 W. Sometimes people are looking for one thing, but then see that you have other little things on your listing that they might need or could use and since they are buying something else, it's not out of their way to buy something smaller too. And not only that, but sometimes people just want to get rid of things quickly. So, if they price it low, it will go. Finally there are a lot of people from western countries who enjoy going to garage/yard/car boot sales and when they see a good deal, it's hard to pass it up. I am one of those people. I love a good bargain.

Correct me if um wrong, but i thought the whole point of selling used items are what may some feel as overpriced, is that the seller knows that the potential buyer is going to bring them down..

Economics people.. really.. start high and eventually find a happy medium.. i wouldnt sell something at a fair price because most will offer a lower price.. and that wouldnt give the seller much bargining power.. dunno but thats what i do.

I usually never expect to get the price I advertise and on the other end the potential buyer usually trys to get a lower price.. negotiating a fair price between the seller and buyer is the whole point.

Do u people always buy used things at the sellers price or do u try to lower the price, even by 10 or 20 bucks.. i sure do.

However i dont think trying to sell things for 2 or 3,000 won is worth the time to type it up and advertise.. least not to me.. i'd just give it away.

Again, the real backlash here is against the morons who try to sell crappage like toilet brushes and half-empty toothpaste tubes.

I think selling books isn't so bad at all. I live in Cheonan, so it's a bit of trek for me to come into Seoul with all my books to whatthebook and trade them in.

Recently, I had about 40 books, so I listed them on my blog. Some friends of mine bought about 15 of them for 40 000 won, a pretty good deal for everyone. It's better than me lugging them to Seoul. And I paid money for them, so it makes sense that I'd want something in return. With the 40 000, I can buy another 6 or 8 used books.

One or two books though, I'd never bother selling. What a waste of time.
