I'd heard a lot about downloading torrents and decided tonight that I would begin. So, I downloaded uTorrent and the first movie that I downloaded was "Goodfellas". When I went to watch the movie, there was sound but no video. Did I do something wrong? It was an AVI movie....does that have something to do with it?

Thank you for your help.

What media player are you using? If I remember correctly, Windows Media Player and a few others don't play AVI files.

It is Window's Media Player. I also tried to play it on Real Player and Quicktime. No luck. Is there another media player that I can download that will play avi?

Thanks

GOM Player rocks.

Just about anything under the sun. Might be others, but this is the one I use.

If you prefer Windows Media Player, you're most likely just missing some codecs for the movie. Google "cccp" and you'll find a link to a codec pack that should solve your problem. I think a player is bundled with it but I never use it.

VLC works really well...It'll play anything, and it's simple to use.

I had that same problem. There is probably a plug-in you are missing. When you open the file it should give you some kind of warning about why it won't play right.

The problem was most likely caused by you not having the right 'codec' to watch the movie. Gom player works because it seems to have every codec under the sun included. If you want to find out what codec a particular movie uses, use this program:
