does anyone find that the mosquito bites here are worse then home? or ok at least my home (USA)- i've gotten several bites lately which i'm assuming are mosquitos. the itching is about the same- maybe slightly worse, but then they swell up and then get blisters and theres a bunch of fluid built up behind them?

ugh. i felt like such a skuzz at the gym the other day when i had to stop and scratch and the lady working brought me over some meds. and also does anyone have any suggestions whats good for them (the bites) since i seem to be a korean mosquito delicasy??

Yeah, I think they are worse, both in Korea and Hong Kong.

I got a few bites in HK and they were itchy and boy - they swelled up like a tennis ball afterwards!!!

When I first came to Korea, I had a bite so bad that the whole of my forearm was bruised and I had to go to the doc's to make sure that it wasn't something more serious.

maybe the bites are about the same (i haven't had any as bad as the ones you describe) but the skeeters are just a different animal. i think mosquitoes here are small and fast and quiet...i can't kill them! i'm used to big buzzard-sized things that make a hell of a lot of racket and fly real slow. most of the time back home you can kill the mofo before he bites you. not here! we have stealth bombers; Korea has stealth skeeters.

pff- tell me about it! didnt even see them coming! 10 bites in 1 go sitting outside at geckos. i never knew what hit me!!

Used to sleep with my window open until one night I woke up and couldn't open my right eye because it had swollen so much due to a mosquito bite.

There were also two more on my cheek and forehaed. I was not impressed, especially as it looked like I had been in a fight.

I shut the window after that but not before seeing to large (compared to Korea and UK anyway) mosquito slowly flying around my room. Managed to kill both of the bastards.

I know it was them too as this was the only time I have ever crushed mosquito and seen blood in my hand afterwards. It was a fair amount of blood too for something of only about 3/4cm in size.

i totally just had that swollen eye experience a couple days ago. woke up with my eye swollen and a huge one on my forehead that looked like a welt. it really did look like i got socked a couple good ones in the face. i accidentally left the window open, and i woke up covered in these huge swollen patches. like a skin disease. really gross.

the bites here are horrid, but i remember reading something about getting weird reactions to indigenous mosquitos when you get bit the first few times since you're body isn't used to it. it's supposed to cool off after a while. i don't know. i just got here a few weeks ago, so i hope that's the case. i don't want to deal with these mosquitos mangling by body for the rest of the summer...

Mosquitos here don't bite me. I don't know why. They always go for my wife and even my cats first.

I was outside drinking with Jajdude earlier and got mad nailed by the little wenches, maybe 6 or 7 bites on my arms, not too sure.

Still though, the itches don't bother me much as I'm from South Africa; where the mozzies are like three times the size of the ones here. Mosquito bites do look pretty cool on the tattoed parts of my arms though, like little black volcanoes.

I've got evil craterous sores all over my lower legs and feet, thanks to the local mosquitos. And those bites are 3 weeks old. They are taking forever to heal!

I'm from Canada and am used to mosquitos, but the ones here cause super-itchy bites that blister, and get reactivated if I get a new bite.

Solution: wear pants and shoes (not sandals) when sitting at patio tables at night. Also, screens on the windows. I never took much precaution back home, if I got bit--big deal! Here, I take care to avoid bites.

O.o hmmm this worries me..how effective are the repellent in Korea?
