ur pretty retarded if you think korean feminists are pushovers. i find them to be scarier than western feminists. western feminism may have started first, but korean feminism has taken it to new heights. in china, women practically wear the pants.
korean women with college degrees earn 92 cents for every dollar a korean man with a degree earns. in america, it is 70 cents. |
Nah. First of all, women earn about 65% that men do:
http://www.hani.co.kr/section-004000000/2005/07/004000000200507031825135.html
And going to university does little to lessen the gap:
http://www.joongang.ca/bbs/board.php?bo_table=T1002&wr_id=2909 |
http://www.oecd.org/topic/0,3373,en_2649_34321_1_1_1_1_37457,00.html
actually it is education that closes the gap pretty significantly, especially with advanced degrees. |
You really don't have a case here when it comes to income disparity. Behold the average salaries of major corporations in Korea by gender:
http://cafe.naver.com/makehope.cafe?iframe_url=/ArticleRead.nhn%3Farticleid=83576
You'll also notice near the bottom that not only is there disparity between men and women, but the salary increase itself is going up at a slower rate for women, with a 9.6% increase in salary for men and 7.2% increase for women over the year, so the gap is widening.

I'm gonna have to call bullshiat on this. |
I can believe it. Korean men make about 2 million won per month and the average school teacher ( women) make about 1.6 million won. Where a Canadian male like myself makes 1.6 million won per week. |

I like the show but not really for the content. I study Korean and have somewhat of a hard time with it, but seeing other foreigners who have a decent command of the language gives me hope that I can do it too. |

Male Korean public school teachers make more money at the start of teaching because their military service is included when determining pay rate. A male teacher who has been teaching for 1 year, is considered to have been an public employee for 3 years (1 year teaching and 2 years military service). |

Please expand on this. Russian women are what exactly -- good at being submissive china dolls, good at being retarded, or good at manipulation? Seems like a pretty hefty generalization ... |

I dunno about the idea that Korean woen make 92 cents to the guys dollar...thing is, even if it was true, and I think it's been shown here that it's quite likely not, that would only measure those lucky enough to get a job; faced with a choice between a male and a female employee with equal qualifications, are they really hiring fifty fifty? I'm pretty sure they're not, for most jobs.
And as for higher level stuff; anyone seen a female bank boss here? Police chief? Any sort of white collar boss jobs for ladies here at all? The CEOs and CFOs in every chaebol are fifty percent women?
Really don't think so... |

More Women Keep Secret Stash of Money
Quote: |
More and more women, both working wives and homemakers, are saving up without their husbands' knowledge, an unrepresentative poll suggests.
Why are women creating secret funds? There were many responses, but about a third said the money was for themselves, such as when they suddenly need to travel. "The knowledge that I have money I can use for myself at any time gives me freedom," was a typical response. Roughly a quarter said they were saving the money for emergencies,...
Two or three admitted they were saving in preparation for a divorce.
Office worker Kim Yun-mi, 30, who met her husband of three months through a matchmaker, said, "There are a lot of divorces nowadays, so you never know. I put aside some of my salary every month just in case." |

A survey indicated married Korean women manage an average of W14.4 million (about US$12,000) of "secret funds" without the knowledge of their spouses, who in turn had only W3.4 million (about US$3,000) kept aside -- or a mere quarter of how much their wives have tucked aside. |

Male Teaching Ranks Dwindling: Survey
Quote: |
A survey found that eight out of ten Seoul-based elementary school teachers are women. It also reported that some elementary schools have no male teacher....
For example, 18 faculty staff including the principal, vice principal, and teachers in Hangang Elementary School in Yongsan-gu, Seoul are all women....
The share of female teachers was highest in kindergartens at 98.3 percent (5063 out of 5153), in middle schools at 66.3 percent (12,780 out of 19,288), and in high schools at 38.9 percent (6628 out of 17,035). Female teachers reached 51 percent (3078 out of 6035) at public schools last year, exceeding the number of male teachers for the first time in history. |

What if an Italian show selected a group of foreign (attractive) women to speak about Italian culture, men, ect....?
It would be cheesy as well.
But if that's what sells then oh well.
However, it would be nice to see a group of foreign males and have them answer questions about Korean women. That would sure be interesting. |

Yeah, I know what you are saying, overall the wage gap is pretty big, but it does seem like the more education a woman gets in Korea, the more parity she reaches with a Korean male with an equivalent degree more than most other countries.
In this graph, a Korean woman with a University degree earns a pretty good rate in comparison with women of other countries. A degree becomes more of an equalizer than other countries it seems.
In most other countries, the more uneducated a woman is, the more pay parity she reaches with a male. In Korea, it seems to be the opposite.
I saw the 90 cent figure for Korean women with a graduate degree vs. a Korean male with a graduate degree which is the highest in the world. I'll try to find it. It used to be on an excel file in the OECD database.

i pm'd it to you. btw, i know its 90 cents for korean women with graduate degrees vs. korean men w graduate degrees. if i find it again one day, i will let u know. i already spent a lot of time backtracking this info already.
haha im not sure why older women w college degrees in luxembourg make so much. its a small country, so a few data points can skew the results, also who knows, maybe the men retire early? maybe teachers are paid higher than average there? maybe men retire early while teachers continue to get pension as salary?? im not sure. *shrugs* |
