I'm a graduate of Juilliard here teaching English as a step toward getting into performing for a living. I was wondering if anyone has any information about getting into performance related work. I'm a double bassist (classically trained) who is more into playing jazz, funk, folk, etc. I'm mainly curious as to what kinds of jobs would give me an E-6 visa and what-not and if anyone has any experience moving into that sector.

I know one foreigner who teaches jazz at a university in Seoul. It seems to me this would be a good stepping stone. Start pumping out your resume to music departments instead of English departments. Take it from there.

As glib as the previous poster was, I am afraid that it is true: It's who you know in this country. Academic circles are probably a good launching site.

Korea has a porn industry?

Anyway, for entertainment jobs you've gotta make connections. The Internet is huge. Make use of it.

Also any the following:

* Learn Korean
* If you have modelling/acting experience at home
* You can sing
* If you can sing, learn how to do it in Korean
* Learn Korean
* Attend auditions (the foreign friendly ones)

Can E-2 visa holders get an entertainer visa? I don't think so. Marry a Korean. That's your only option.

Thanks for the serious comment Trevor, I'll have to start doing that. I've been looking into the different music universities in the area and hopefully something will stick. Take it easy!

If your on a tourist visa you've got a better chance than when on an E2. What about student visas? I think it depends, if someone likes the look of you, you'll get secured no matter what. But that's like winning the lottery.

And yes, marrying a Korean is probably the best bet .. But marry for love, not a VISA ffs. Get that visa outta your head. Or are you an import male cinderella? Also have money put-by to survive a period without working (unless your a teacher)

Well, I'm here teaching on an E-2 at the moment. I've been lined up for a few TV instructional shows but they always fall through at the last moment. Just looking for some E-6 related job suggestions really, mainly in the music area. I'm interested mainly in pro studio work kinda stuff... so yeah:p
