Believe it or not, taxes are not that low here. Just because we pay 3.3% of so, doesn't mean it's low.

I learned the tax rates here. There are 4 categories

MOnthly salary of 1,000,000, 2,000,000, 5,000,000 or 10,000,000 or over. The tax rates are 9%, 18%, 27%, or 36%, respectively. There is 10% sales tax included in everything. Also people pay prooperty tax, car tax, gas tax, cigarette tax, and a bunch more of course.

Though western countries pay a lot more tax, Korean rates are not exactly that low. Though people who earn low enough wages don't pay any income tax at all, I don't think they have any non-taxable income.

Now, Korean tax services offer a lot less to people in exchange, of course. But the sheer lack of services here makes me wonder where the tax money all goes.

Ok, I will use Canada as an example of a western nation, as I know it the best.

Things Canada offers that Korea doesn't: Infrastructure, more highways, paid military (as opposed to unpaid conscription), welfare (for those people who just don't feel like working, God bless 'em), family allowance, free schooling up to university, health care, free everything for natives, more libraries, old age pension, foreign aid, and a multitude of other things. Also, amazingly, Canada has a surplus.

Korea: A bigger army, but mostly unpaid. But still expensive to run. Um....did I miss anything?

And Korea is in the red.

I wonder where the money goes.
