|
|
I thought you would like to know about this urgent campaign to free 23 South Korean aid workers, most of them young women, who have just been taken hostage by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. The Taliban are threatening to execute them this week, an action that could trigger a mass evacuation of life-giving humanitarian aid from all of Afghanistan.
The situation is desperate, but there is hope. The Taliban are all from the 'Pashtun' ethnic group, and observe a strict code called Pashtunwali the "way of the Pashtuns". This code demands, above all else: "hospitality to all, especially guests and strangers". There are rumours of infighting among the Taliban over these kidnappings, because they clearly violate the code.
A global outcry for the Taliban to follow their own code would certainly be covered by media in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the Taliban are based creating massive local pressure on them to free their prisoners. But these hostages are living under a 24 hour death sentence. We have seconds not minutes to act.
Sign the petition below and then forward this email: http://www.avaaz.org/en/honour_the_afghan_code/tf.php |

Do you think Taliban is consistently watching this site and going to release the prisoners as soon as the petitions reach 50000! Funny!!!!
Eventhough I hate missionaries, I pray for release of those 23 stupid Koreans! |

I won't sign either.
Not because I don't care, but because it's futile.
Let the powers that be do their job. |

Meh, if you go to a country you have been repeatedly warned away from in order to pick a theological slapfight, you shouldn't expect your government to go out of their way to rescue you. No prisoner trade, no Delta Force, just good old Charles Darwin.
I propose that instead of saving the hostages, we direct our efforts to enlarging the very important warning seen here (left) with three of the hostages standing in front of flashing peace signs. Maybe make it 25 meters high with bright neon lights and maybe motion-sensing sirens that go off when you walk by so that nobody misses that whole "Don't go to Afghanistan" part.

Yeah, bad situation.
Although, instead of whimpering, cowtowing and pleading...the Korean government can tell those people "For every Korean that is killed, we will whipe out one village".
Appeasement only makes the aggressor more aggressive.

You rarely see the Israelis negotiate for hostages for a reason. |

Good point....and true.
Well, Korea does have a chance to get in the game, and show some back-bone. Buuuuuuut.............I don't think that will happen, especially if they agree to the terms of the those who are holidng the hostages.
But, you never know.

Why?
While I will agree that this is a terrible situation and tragic, especially now that one has been killed, it's something they could have avoided.
They are all from the same church apparently NOT doing missionary work in a country where Missionaries are NOT welcome.
As all of us have probably heard, they were not there as christians but as doctors and "English Teachers "????
Really??? C'mon! They were there trying to convert people, no way they weren't and they got caught. That's the biggest problem with christians, always trying to convert others.
Afghan. is a dangerous country to start with, when you add in pushy christians, it's a whole different kind of dangerous as the past few days have shown.
I do hope that all the rest are returned safely, but don't get teary about it, they shouldn't have been doing that there anyways. |
