So last year, Njord, Inspector Gadget and I had a great time hiking at Jirisan. I want to plan another trip and was thinking of doing 4 or 5 day hikes around Jeonju during Chuseok time. Seoraksan is tempting but would involve over 7 hours of transportation for me (I'm in Cheonan) by train and significantly longer by bus due to traffic so that is out.

So the possible plan:

Take a train to Jeonju and we could all meet up there. It's about 3.5 hours South of Seoul. Then it would be bus to all the local mountains. They all seem to be within an hour or so of Jeonju.

Then go to one of the following each day: Moaksan, Maisan, Deogyusan (potentially staying in the shelter at the top here), Naejangsan, Daedunsan. We could drop our gear off at a minbak at the base of the mountain in the morning, hike all day and then return for a shower, nice meal and some relaxing.

Anyone interested??? This is only a tentative plan. I'd be open to other suggestions involving hiking.

So far, no takers. If no one is in for sure with the next few days, I will probably make other plans. If I am going for sure, train tickets will need to be booked soon-ish.

When is Chuseok time? I'm I have five days off this friday.

I also have a summer vacation beginning this Friday. Would appreciate some hiking partners if anyone's interested.

Yeah, Chuseok at the end of September is when the plan is for. A Saturday to Wed. I think it is.

i dont think i would ever do the whole thing solo again, but if i had a sig. other to do it with, it could be a blast

however, i would like to do the NE section again, solo or not solo. it was beautiful and rugged and a whole lotta fun

youve heard of the triple crown, right? AT, PCT, CDT. well, i want to do my own version of that, preferably all in the same year:

i call it The Triple Tiara: the long trail, the jmt, and the colorado trail. much more manageable versions of their longer counterparts

and if you change your mind, i would be up for seorak-san. a 5 day break is the perfect time to do the longer trips. it would just have to be an overnighter. we'd have to reserve a tentsite or a couple of rooms or a couple of spots in one of the huts. think about it

Yeah, I know Sereoksan is nice. However, the train isn't exactly ideal for getting there. It's a 5 hour overnighter from Seoul and then it's still a 2 hour bus ride. And since you're new, you may not know the road travel situation at Chuseok. Insane! As in triple your allotted time to get anywhere. So I don't really want to take the bus anywhere far.

So that's why my plan was for somewhere easier to get to.

My next long-distance hiking plan is the Camino De Santiago, next summer maybe.

Hey, I'm not on Dave's much, but it's lucky I do check the travel forum from time to time. I'd be interested in joining your plan. I was thinking of doing Seoraksan, but I can do that some weekend. (I live in Gangwon-do now. Great for hiking!) Keep me posted.

I'm sorry I missed it last year. Unfortunately, I've already made plans to go to Japan with some friends for Chuseok, so it looks like I'm going to miss the Chuseok hike with jlb again this year. Drats!
