I'm going to Europe in 2010 for around four months. This is my wish list:

Places where I have been before (or, where my boyfriend knows them like the back of his hand) but want to return to:

Paris, LaBoule, and maybe Provence, France
Madrid, Spain
Amsterdaam, Netherlands
Prague and Chesky Crumlov, Czech Rep.
Budapest, Hungary
Dolomites, Interlaken and Lausanne, Switzerland

Places where I have not been but want to visit:
Latvia, Estonia, Lithiuania, Romania, Poland, Greece

I'd like to see London and Dublin, as well as the Nordic states, but they are too expensive and maybe should be reserved for a separate trip, wherein I would like to hit Iceland as well.

If you could plan an awesome trip to Europe, what would you do, where would you go?

p.s....For the places I have not been to, does anyone have any good tips, places, or things to see? I kind of like to stay off of the beaten path.

Go to Scotland, have an orgy with as many Scottish women as possible.

Replace that word with just about any European country except England. France, Italy, Uzbekistan.. it would beat any other vacation. (no Hostel jokes, plz.)

I'm dying to go to Europe. I have to go within the next couple of years. I want to see Paris, Venice, Rome, Milan, Salzburg, Vienna, Bern, Madrid, Brussels, Zurich, Frankfurt/Munich, Prague, etc. Croatia would be awesome, too. I've seen Istanbul twice. You should definitely go there. So far, it's the most beautiful city I've ever seen. The architecture is breathtaking!

Newschwanstein castle near Munich, built (but not finished) by Mad King Ludwig, whoever he was. I really loved it.

Is definitely not off the beaten path though, quite the opposite.

Your list seems too long...

shorten it if you truly want to 'see/visit' any of those places.

Otherwise, it's just the 'backpacker' version of

"If This Is Tuesday It Must Be Belgium".

I think Berlin would be phenomenal. The history there would be enough to keep you busy for a while.

Greece is phenomenal, I took a bus there and truly enjoyed traveling through the Greek countryside. I know Santorini is not off the beaten path but it is the best place in the world. I don't think you would regret going there.

We're actually not going to be spending time in Interlaken. My boyfriend agreed with you that Interlaken isn't really that fun. My reason for saying that Interlaken was on of my Swiss destinations was that I didn't think that many people would know the rural spots in the Lauterbrunnen Valley that we would be hiking (Gimmelwald, Stechelburg, etc).

I'd go to Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, pick up a brand new Porsche 911 turbo, and then spend a few weeks on the autobahn.

Ive been to about 1/2 of the places on your list. I think you should see Rome. Its as good as Prague or Paris, IMHO, because of the oldness of it.

I lived in Zuffenhausen for a semester, and I concur.
