Some Korean protesters tore a live pig apart!

Anyone hear about this?

Such animal cruelty is simply unacceptable!

No arguement can justify this type of animal cruelty.

In the US this type of action is illegal and if this happened there those who did it would face punishment by being in violation of animal cruelty laws, and there would be LOTS of public outrage by Americans over the incident.

An Atrocity, Pure and Simple

Members of an emergency committee, opposed to the central government`s plan to relocate military units to their city, held a protest rally in front of the Ministry of Defense in Yongsan at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. When the rally ended, around 20 residents of Icheon city came up to a podium in front of the crowd. From a steel barrel, they took out a pig with its legs tied to ropes and started to pull in four different directions. The 1.2-m pig was torn into pieces. Then the residents grabbed the writhing animal and slit its throat. For about half an hour, the pig lay in front of the ministry, its blood seeping into the pavement.
Some Icheon residents who were watching this act, which the emergency committee called a "performance", applauded and waved the Korean flag. The mayors of Icheon and Hanam cities, lawmakers and 1,500 residents took part in the protest rally, but not one of them tried to stop the gory performance. The emergency committee belatedly tried to address mounting complaints, saying the performance was an "accidental" act committed by only a handful of residents. But the horrific act was reported by the media and on the Internet and caught the attention of animal rights groups in Europe and the U.S.

The demonstrators were protesting against the Ministry of Defense�s decision to relocate a military base to Icheon and demanded the defense minister's resignation. They vowed to rally the support of the city's 200,000 residents to block the base's relocation. But nobody was able to explain what the brutal killing of a pig had to do with that vow and what that barbaric act symbolized.

Violent acts take place indiscriminately at protest rallies in our country. People shave their heads, go on hunger strike and immolate themselves, while many don't think twice about using sharp bamboo sticks, Molotov cocktails and stones. Police officers end up getting injured and hospitalized. Korean protesters, whose actions have been widely reported by foreign media again and again, have earned their country the shameful honor of being a country that brutally quarters a live animal in public. It is simply frustrating to see how cruel and inhumane public sentiment has become.

Animal cruelty is nothing new for Korean protesters. Here is another
story of a cruel and savage killing of a pig by Korean protesters back in 2002 to protest against a visit by then Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to a controversial war shrine.

Ex-Korean Commandos Kill "Koizumi Pig"

A group of former South Korean commandos hacked a squealing pig daubed with the word "Koizumi" to death on Tuesday, to protest against a weekend visit by Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to a controversial war shrine. Dozens of riot police surrounded the van, which was parked close to the Japanese embassy while the ex-agents � who say they were trained to infiltrate North Korea � drew knives and repeatedly cut and stabbed the " Koizumi pig." Both South Korea and China have protested against Sunday's visit to Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine, which honors convicted war criminals as well as other Japanese war dead. Koizumi's visit came just six weeks before Japan and South Korea co-host soccer's showcase World Cup finals. "How can he bow in front of criminals who committed crimes against the whole world," ex-soldier Oh Bok-seob told reporters. "He (Koizumi) is not here, so we killed the pig." The ex- commandos shoved the still shrieking animal from the back of their stationary van on to the road some 200 meters away from the Japanese embassy. Riot police struggled to stuff the badly bleeding pig into a sack. It soon fell silent and died.
