You can buy spaghetti sauce with basil in it at almost any 'supa'. |

Try draining it. Trust me, that is how I made my pesto sauce for my hot dogs. Delish! |

Yeah did that the other night for my quesadillas - the missus loved them, and she is Hungarian. Great stuff. |

You can buy pesto in E-Mart for a reasonable price. |

The SE Asian grocers in my town sell fresh Thai basil, coriander, lemongrass, galangal, lime leaves, blah blah blah other stuff for curries... it's quite a nice little find when you don't live in Seoul. |

I had complained to my girlfriend for ages about not being able to get fresh basil. She managed to order some from a flower shop for me. My life is complete! |

I've never seen it for sale anywhere here. As a result, I had my mom send me packets of seeds and grow my own herb garden on the balcony.
If you go this route, be sure to tell your sender to NOT label the envelop the seed packets are in. If customs knows, they will stop the package.
What's a little smuggling between friends. |

Set some 1-2 plants aside to go to seed, when they do, just shake 'em all over the empty pots that have been harvested, from then on they will self seed for yonks, we had 'em popping up everywhere...cracksinthe rooftop, ajummas gochu pots etc. |

Yeah but I like draining sauce, and it is cheaper. Trust me, I have been here for 8 years. Who would you trust, a fetus or a geriatric?
Please.

There is nothing better than fresh basil. You're better off growing your own. |

I'm growing some baby basil plants. I have a few big ones as well. I'd be willing to give you a couple sprouts if you want to shlep to Daechi-dong. |

P.s. Also, I will be leaving in early December to go back to the states, and I am going to have to get rid of my basil plants. I would like to give them away so that others can use them, and I will post another message again when I am close to leaving!
I just made awesome meatballs and put some fresh basil in there.
p.s.s....How do you pronounce it "bay-sill" or "bah-zil"? I believe the latter is British pronunciation. |
