Why are casinos in Seoul only for foreigners? Any thoughts? |

Gambling at casinos is a source of revenue for the casinos, but almost always results in losing money for individuals. Also, gambling can lead to harmful and addictive behavior.
If Korean individuals gamble at casinos, they will lose money and indulge in harmful and addictive behavior. Casinos' revenues increase.
If foreigners gamble at casinos, they will lose money and indulge in harmful and addictive behavior. Casinos' revenues increase..
Does that explain it? |

The only thing I can't figure out is why losing money and indulging in harmful and addictive behavior is OK when it's cigarettes, soju, or juicy girls but not gambling. |

Koreans are highly moral and principled people. They, unlike us degenerate foreigners, have no interest in gambling, prostitution etc. |

haha.... you know, its not about the truth... its about the perception... soju and cigarettes make you manly, but gambling is a western evil. |

I think it's because most Koreans are compulsive gamblers by nature. I'm not trying to stereotype all Koreans here. More like all asians. Every casino I've been to, either here or in North America, has had a fairly large asian contingent. My asian friends love gambling. I love gambling. It must be true.
If gambling was legal in Korea, a lot of Koreans would go broke. It's much smarter to just clean out the foreigners. |

Just imagine how packed the casinos would be if Koreans could go...It'd probably be worse than most of the other public entertainment places in Korea... |

Besides the underground gostop rooms and the pachinko "game land"parlours that are everywhere, Koreans can go to the Casino in Taebek. |

Koreans can gamble in Kangwon-do -- where there's a casino for Koreans and foreigners. I've been there, it's big, way more crowded than Walker Hill -- and 99% Korean (whereas most at Walker Hill were Japanese).
Koreans can also take a short trip to Macau. |
