I hate plane crashes.. Not something that happens very often, but... Just seem all the more terrifying. |

The interesting thing about Korean Air is their TV Ad (boasting their new) uniforms has a bunch of foreigners there wearing said uniform. Where are they on the real planes? |

In reality it can happen anywhere at anytime.
Even to YOU.
But, remember the odds are probably less than winning the lottery. |

You've more chance of being struck by lightning than winning a major lotto. The chances of dying in a plane crash are practically zero. Studies have shown one would have to fly once a day every day for over 15,000 years in order to statistically be involved in an aircraft accident.

Statistically speaking, I bet that number is a great comfort to the passengers as their plane crashes...
Seriously, though, why would they even say numbers like that? It's impossible to fly every day for 15,000 years, and yet people are in plane crashes every day......... |

Deaths from plane crashes, whilst sad and dramatic, are a tiny number in comparison to people who enter a plane, fly to somewhere, and exit the plane alive. And those passengers who do indeed die in planes were statistically 500 times more likely to die driving to the airport, more likely to die of heart disease (2,200 Americans per day), more likely to die falling over on snow and more likely to die from a snake bite. More people die on bicycles than in planes (source).

Because the chances of dying in a plane are 1 in 11 million, less likely than being killed in a terrorist attack. It's an analogy.

3 million people catch a plane every day - the safest form of transport. Someone who dreads being killed by a snake or is terrified of food poisoning would be considered insane. I suggest we apply the same to simpletons who've no problem driving to a convenience store but refuse to board a plane. |

I agree...I just think it's silly to use impossible analogies...1 in 11 million sounds better. |

The problem with flying is that its tragic and intense when they go down. Few people get out alive (usually because of the fires). Yes, you have many thousands more chance of dying in a car crash, but when you look at the how many people die in car accidents (obviously the number is higher, but taking how OFTEN someone will die) compared with how often people die in a plane crash, the plane crash is ofcourse, more likely to kill you (but statisically lower)
Simply put, It's not a good way to die. I feel emotional just to see a plane crash recreation. Poor souls indeed! The fright itself can kill you. |

flying freaks me out...without a lot of booze and "happy pills" I just flat out refuse . It's not the slim chances of dying that bothers me ...it's the slim chances of DYING like that I can't deal with . |
