Took the new subway train line to Inchon from the Gimpo subway station. I didn't take the express. It's a bit confusing how to get to the express train platform. Takes about 30 minutes from Gimpo. Costs 3,100 won.
Verdict: I'd only take it if I was trying to get to the airport to meet someone. If you're trying to get there with luggage, forget it. It's better to take a limo bus to the airport. The bus driver loads your luggage on the bus and you're deposited right outside the airport and its luggage carts. You don't want to have to haul bags on the subway system, trundle them between stations, up escalators, etc.
Anyway, here's a whack of photos:
From Gimpo station to the Inchon airport line.
Oh, hrm, you need to T-money card your self out. Doesn't appear like you can use your T-money card to pay for the airport line.
Alright gotta buy this card for 3,100 won. Use it like a T-money card. Slap it on the magnetic reader.
No more knee capping by the little knee high gates. Go through the glass doors after you badge through.
Hrm. There appears to an express train platform and one that stops at the various stations on the way. It's not really clear how you get over to the express platform from the Gimpo end.
Gimpo platform.
Train interiors.
It's above ground for most of the trip.
Doors from the outside.
Platform Inchon.
The express train platform is easier to find at Inchon.
Train station is really close to the airport.
Inchon station.
Going up the Inchon station escalator.
Gates. To exit, don't try to badge out. There's a slot where you deposit the card like you do with the paper tickets.
Touch screen ticket machine in English.
Train station exterior you need to walk through to get to the airport.

I didn't see any areas designated for luggage storage on the train. Is that really the case??? Is it set up like any other subway car?
Again, it just seems like they really dropped the ball on this one. |

May I ask why you think this way?
If you notice in the pictures, there seems to be an abundance of floor space for luggage. Granted, MMT's pictures may not have been taken during airport rush hours (which are when, by the way?), but I imagine those with lots of luggage wouldn't have many problems (People with lots have luggage always find a way to have some problems. It's inevitable.). In my experience with going to Incheon by limo bus, as well as Kimpo by subway (before Incheon existed), most people with lots of luggage have a car pick-up/drop-off anyways. Most that use the subway and limo bus are business men with compact roller suitcases or flight attendants. So I don't really think your issue with luggage storage is/ will be a problem.
Modern limo bus to Incheon= 11,000 won or so.
OR
Modern subway to Incheon= similar price
= GREAT DEAL!!
As well as taxis, express buses, hotel shuttle buses, and private car with plenty of secure parking.
I don't know where you are from, but Seoul's commute to the airport is cheap, modern, and you have a variety of methods. (Just too bad it's so far away.)

| Great photo essay. I'm debating now whether whether I should take the subway and KTX back to Daegu or just a limo bus. I still think I'll do the latter. |

Airport-Limo bus = less hassles and probably faster. After looking at the details in this photo essay I'll stick w/ the bus...  |

Yeah. Forgot to mention that observation. No overhead luggage racks. There is a space at the end of the cars where it looks like you could store your luggage. But that's another major downside. The upside is the train didn't appear very busy. So lots of room to store your luggage. But yeah, you'd think a train to Inchon, where people are taking long trips and need to bring lots of luggage, would have some kind of luggage accommodation.
Also the glass doors at the train gates aren't exactly wide enough for luggage. You're really going to have to heft your stuff over.
Again, if you have to meet someone at the airport, it's great for getting to the airport on the cheap, if you have some extra time, and you don't want to wait on a cold rainy bus stop. But if you've got two suitcases and a carry on, it might be an exercise in pure frustration. Better to pony up an extra $2 for a taxi ride from your apartment to the nearest airport bus stop and then an extra $6 for the limo bus ride.
