Less then 3 months into the Gepik , I decided that I had had enough. I gave the school 2 months notice .The school said that I had to pay approx 900 000 won for ticket and relocation fee. I said " sure"
This is my last job in korea.i could have ran and saved myself 900 000 won , but for whatever reason , I decided to be honest.
Then I just find out that I m only getting a 2 day vacation .The reason being , I m not completing my contract , therefore , I don't get the full 7 days.
However , when I looked on my contract , no where did it say anything about reducing ones vacation time , if one were to leave early.
Im getting screwed for being honest!

Even if you pro-rate 14 vacation days over 1 year, you should get at least 3 days for 3 months, anyway.

But, you're leaving them 3 months in and in a position of explaining to everyone why you're leaving.....not to mention the ordeal of finding a new teacher. Take the 2 days and call it even.

I'm sure the school will find some convenient excuse as to why he is leaving.

To be honest , I dont really care about the vacation time , because in 31 days , I will be done.
What pisses me off , is that when its in their benefit , then we must follow hte contract word for word. If its not in the contract , then forget about it , when it benefits the school
When its not in the contract , and favors the teachers , then they wont do it.

Hi

I dont get it why did u have to pay them all that money?

If you gave two months notice it means that you're not leaving now you will be leaving within the next two months isn't it?

Why don't you then work just a month more then it would be six months?

I'm not too sure, If anyone can clarify this please.

Thanks

Sadly, I've experienced the same.

Best of luck with your situation.

Sometimes I wonder was is going on in the heads of some people when I read tripe like that.

Why should the employee be concerned about the employer explaining to someone why theyleft? Especially here where the odds are they are just going to make something up anyway. Your responsibility is to give them enough time when you give your notce. Not to make up a story to spare their feelings. If you are leaving because you don't like the place, and as in the OP's case you are never coming back, why not tell the truth? They are SUPPOSED to be adults after all.

This idea that by lieing to them you are helping them save face or giving them an out is BS. Look at the OP, he gave them fair notice instead of running, paid the money they asked for and they are STILL giving him the shitty end of the stick.

Take 2 days and call it even? You must like bending over for your boss.

What really pisses me off , is the fact that Im now coming to school and yet I m not working. Not teaching.
So therefore , it would have made no or very little difference if they; the school, had given me the vacation time.
There is nothing for me to do other then post on Dave's
I really dont see how , the school not giving me a vacation , benefitted the school.
If I stay in school or if im given a vacation , my pay check doesnt change.

Ahhhh....I would venture to guess that you leaving pissed them off, it's a bit obvious, isn't it?

Actually , I dont know if they are angry. I do know that the previous Eng. teacher left after 5 months. I heard that , prior to leaving , he refused to speak to anyone( for a certain amount of time ).I dont know the whole story.
Maybe they knew I wouldnt last.

I had to leave ASAP , because I felt I was losing it. This school has too many problems to post.
However one thing that put me over the edge was the fact , the school didnt want to spend any money for the summer camps. I mean no money!!!
Believe it or not , this school has no , or very little air conditioning
CHEAP!

Can you post your contract here, removing any identifying factors for you or your school? The school cannot just take money from you without a contractual provision permitting that. They are still responsible to the Office of Education and to the Mayor's Office for reporting how they disbursed public funds. I do realize that there are some clauses in the contract which require repayment if you leave before a certain time, but that doesn't sound like what you're talking about.
