The Korean media has failed to mention one other reason why so many flee their country and come to Korea and other places to teach English:
Getting away from having to listen to country music. I am serious. It is factored into the reasons why I am here. I didn't spend five years preparing to be a Music Educator to have to listen to that crap ALL THE TIME back home. And it is EVERYWHERE there!
I am also serious about being sick and tired of having my self concept knocked down because there is the perception that all "Englishee Teachers" are no good. It is simply not the case. I have personally sent back well over a hundred grand to support my family over the last decade and at the same time continued to educate myself through distance learning courses at my alma mater not to mention seeing different cultures here in Asia.
No respect for us. Well , I have very little respect for most adult learners of English here in Asia since they usually never progress and their heart is not in it for the most part. These learners often "know more" about grammar and even have suggestions as to classroom technique.
I know far more winners than losers here in Asia. One's who have built or maintained families , created an honest nest egg and home, and have tried their best to do a good job for their students and the parents of their students.
If you folks do not want us here or respect us, we can go elsewhere OR back home thank you. Just like the US Army is doing.
My girlfriend and 2500 square foot house in a nice subdivision are waiting for me anytime thank you. But I have WORK to do here, and that must wait.
I bet you the Philippines wishes they would have opted for US Statehood when it was offered and more recently wish they wouldnt have kicked the US out.
If you get my drift.

I don't get your drift. How does any kind of music, let alone country music in particular, relate in any way to the assassination of JFK?
You lost me. |

No, you lost me because it doesn't. DID YOU READ THE TITLE and the article?
STAY ON TOPIC
And how can I defend the losers here in Korea with the likes of Yataboy around? Makes it hard. |

You can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy. I want to go honky tonkin. |

Do you hear voices commanding you to kill when you play honky tonk backwards? |

Nah, no devil voices. Only time I played a honky tonk album backwards strange things happened. I got my woman, dog, and house back. |

Good Canadian friend of mine spent 7 years in Korea using C and W as a teaching tool. The kids started to like it. |

Student: " Teacha, why you bang your head against wall long time?"
Teacher: "Because it's so much fun when I stop." |
