I filed for my pension refund yesterday- and I was surprised that the process was a lot more complicated than what people have posted on this board. But I have a few q.s about it.

1. I was told they could not reimburse my full pension if I wanted it deposited into my Korean bank account before I leave (at the end of August.) My pension refund will be shy about 200,000 won that is withheld because I want the refund before I fly. They also said this would have been true had I wanted it in a U.S. bank account. So I am basically not getting the full refund..is this normal?

2. They said I would receive it on the 20th of August. It seemed like this is longer than what people have posted, (but maybe not.) Does this sound right?

3. For some reason, my not owning a cell phone had something to do with the timing of when I could receive my pension, and the amount. (I'm not sure about this...she just asked if I had one when we were discussing the timing, and my wanting the full reimbursement.)

If anyone knows a bit more about this, I would appreciate you feedback. Thanx. Smile

It took a couple of months of me badgering the pension office to get my pension paid to my new zealand bank account. The pension office had to wait for confirmation that I had left korea before they would pay it off.

It is true that you can receive up to the last month of your pension while you are still here in Korea, but you will likely have to fight hard for the remaining portion since once you leave it is out of sight out of mind for the pension office...

So what do you suggest I do? I was arguing with the pension people over that last 200,000 won. I spent about 5 minutes explaining to this girl that the date on my ticket means I will leave then, and that putting the remaining amount in my account after I leave will do no good. She didn't seem to understand this at all. Should I go back??? I'm sure they hate me there already...

Just provide them with your bank account info from back home and do as the other poster mentioned. Bug them frequently until they pay up...Some folks wouldn't fret over 200,000 KRW, but I figure if you worked to receive the benefit, you should get it...
