my situation is probably different but in community college, university or doing my grad degree were any of the instructors/professors there to entertain my butt. But Now, after 4 years, I am getting burned out on this need to make every freaking university class an entertainment hour. I couldf write a book, but this demand to be "entertaining" play games" etc is draining me. I joke with students and am rather laid back, but it seems the demand to be the class clown/energizer bunny etc is getting worse. Give me a break!!! Is that preparing you for the real world? I talked about the hostage crisis and was told to change the topic to a "Fun" topic. Well I remember during the Virginia Tech massacre that they wanted to discuss it so they could tell me he was not really Korean.

I told them that sometimes topics need to be a little serious because life's conversations are not always fun and games.

Sh_t, I should have gone to a comedian academy rather than a grad school--it would have prepared me better for Korea. The crap in grad school has little to do with what is actually expected from you by the students I have taught this intensive. Mind you-I am only speaking of this 6 week morning, afternoon and night intensive. It is not always like this. I am just letting off some steam here. Sorry for adding more complaints to the board.

Why is it that some intensives go so well with great motivated students that are a joy to teach and then you get these "Classes from Elm Street". If it was always this way I'd throw in the towel and move on.

Hi

Hang in there....you always get some duds.

It's times like that I like to remind myself it's not me it's them Evil or Very Mad

My city is so small that I can get my own back talking to some of them and making smart comments on the street if they decide to impinge on my personal time and talk to me. Twisted Evil

If you live in a city where it is big enough that you don't have to worry you are luckier then me.

G luck

Wow, demanding games in a university class! That is weird. Couldn't you just tell the students to get lost or force them to get back to work?

You need to control your class. Who's the boss? You or the students?
Everytime someone mentions game...they ALL lose 1% of their final game. They sit around, reading, not paying attention...whatever. Cut them where it hurts...their grades.
