|
|
Hey,
I was wondering if anyone out there can tell me about the Duckcheon area of Busan. I have just accepted a public school position in this area. Apprantly it is only 12 stops away from central Busan. Is this a good place to live, good foreign community? lots to do ? near the beach ?
Thanks

These are questions which should have been asked before you signed a contract. This will give you an idea of the subway station:

It's not bad. An hour away from the beach, 7,000won taxi ride to PNU and walking distance to the red light district. Also a lot of gangsters, should be fun! |

It's got a Hitler Bar which is about 1O minutes away. Not really any foreign hangouts or community that I know of. There certainly are some here but I haven't seen too many of them. Also, the dog market is here which is very interesting the first time....
Where is the Red Light District?? from the previous post??? |

I'd say that the place is sort of a "neutral" place to live. I lived near there for about six years and never saw more than five or six foreigners. Although I'm sure more existed, I usually went into Seo-myeon or elsewhere to meet up with friends and/or co-workers. If nothing else, there's a great rink near there if you like skating and the restaurant selection has gotten slightly better in the past year with the opening of an Outback and a VIPs.
I'm assuming the "redlight district" referred to is the one near Gu-po Station. Wouldn't surprise me if there were a couple of others. I know there are lots of deulanjoojums in the Deokchun area. Maybe that's what they meant? |

The funny thing is Geoje Island is closer to downtown Busan (45 minute ferry to near Nampodong) than that place! |

It's called Gu-po Market or 구포시장. It's very near the Deokchun subway station. It's not just dogs. It's dogs, fish, goats' balls, and the like...similar to Moran Market in Seoul and Chilsung Market in Daegu. |

Really? So how long does the walk to the ferry take, and how long do you have to wait for the ferry then? |

I almost never go to Nampodong. I usually meet people in Seomyeon or PNU.
I have a friend who worked and lived in Deokcheon for awhile, he remembers the dog meat market. |

I'm bumping this, as I'm considering a position by Deokcheon station and want to see if anybody has any further input than what has been offered in this thread so far.
Thanks |
