I've agreed to come and work in Ansan (about an hour south of Seoul) and was wondering if anyone knows anything about the school, or if not, how about Ansan?

Just out of curiosity - why are you posting this AFTER you agreed to work there?

Ansan English Village?

Wacky schedule - you have to sleep with the kids from time to time (chaperone)

You live about 45mins away from the village and have to commute.

Disorganized. Unfriendly staff. (last I heard)

In general there have been quite a few problems with English villages in Korea. So do a search! There have been many threads on the subject.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I have read some things about English Village but I think this one is different, i.e. it's a new school and I think the name is a misnomer. There's no sleeping in, it's a 10-12 & 3-8 schedule, no weekends. Do you know anything about Ansan? I've been told there's 10,000 English teachers in the city. Is it a fun city?

10,000 English teachers? How big is that place? Does that include Korean English teachers?

Damn.

But at least you won't have to sleep with the students. Actually, I would have recommended that you didn't.

The city of Ansan is about 700,000. It's about an hour south of Seoul. As far as Korean English teachers, I don't know the breakdown. The director (an American) who has been there 2 years gave me that figure. I'm still trying to get info about Ansan, other than what I've read on some web sites. I'd rather have a the real scoop from someone who knows.

I moved out of Ansan yesterday. The teachers in that area hang out in or around Jungang station. I lived in Gojan dong, which is about a 15 minute walk from Jungang. I live in Suwon now, and Ansan is about a 20 minute bus ride from here. There are a lot of SE Asians working in the factories, that may be where the 10,000 came from.
