The country's inflation is the highest in the world. The new note, issued by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe from Wednesday, can buy 1kg of sugar.

The IHT or the FT yesterday had a rather amazing photo of store shelves 100% empty. Mugabe ordered prices cut 50% across the board, under pain of arrest. Unfortunately you can't compel factory owners to produce goods at a 50% loss.

Last year, I had a discussion in a Seoul bar with a patron from a to-be-undisclosed country about moving to Africa.

He expressed a desire to go to Zimbabwe. I told him I wouldn't go there because of the dictatorship. He told me that it was fine to go there and I should look at my country (USA) before condemning such decisions.

America has faults, many I'd even say, so that fact should not deter you from going anywhere. Using your faculty of judgment may lead you towards prejudice and bigotry. Although the fact that you were American makes me wonder why he was even talking to you. I mean, he should've known that since you were an American you would be obstinate and prejudiced no matter what he said.
