I would love so much to have an order of kimchi jigae, or bimbimbap, or kimbap, or nakji bokum, or booldak... and I would love to be able to go and get some at 1 am..
I am thinking about it right now, trying to find online yellow pages for nearby cities, I want to eat Korean food, none in my city! But there is some about an hour's drive away

Lots of it in Korea. It's all good as long as your with at least one other person as Korean restaurants are set up for couples and groups, but not solo sojourners. |

There's Korean food in Korea? I wouldn't have thought to look there But I envy your proximity to the good stuff - food
I don't want to go back there though I still read these boards in reflection of the time I spent in the country.
Excellent point about the bulk of restaurants not being set up for a solo eater. That was disappointing at times because it so limits what a person can eat if not in the company of others. |

I guess you crave the things that you've lacked for a while. I can't tell you how much I've craved a real breakfast lately (bacon, eggs,,,,the works). Also, I'm from Montreal, and I've craved real, fresh bagels and smoked meat sandwiches........O.K., I gotta stop now. I'm fantasizing like Homer Simpson does with pork cops and apple sauce . |

Montreal, ooh! I start work there next month (I'm from Ontario) I can only assume that I will be able to find Korean food there in such a large city. My hopes are up. Is there Korean food there? |

Yep, there are. Not as many as in Toronto because the Korean community isn't nearly as large. If memory serves, there were a few on Sherbrooke St.,West. One is called Seoul (easy to remember!). Sorry, I can't remember the name of the others. Anyway, no worries, you'll definitely be able to find quality Korean cuisine in Montreal. Enjoy! |

I would rather have the smoked meat sandwiches of the Eastern European kind from Montreal (I believe Schwarz, if I recall the name), then there is Chez Cora's crepes, and what I wouldn't do for a real omelette, how about a souvlaki. I am sorry, but if I had a choice between yukae jang, which I like, and those foods I mentioned it would be a no brainer, though I would want to eat Korean for sentimental reasons when I leave, because I've spent a lot of time here and some of the food is okay like dak galbee, but to be honest I lose my apetite when I eat Korean food. Maybe they add chemicals to the food or something that irritates my stomach. I don't have that problem with food from the rest of the world. My stomach went to normal when I avoided those local joints and stuck with Japanese and Western food and stuff I would make at home. I wish I loved Korean food, but I can just say it's okay. |

I agree with you, there is plenty of food that I might prefer to eat, but I have had this consistent craving for food I can lo longer access, and I hope to satisfy that craving sometime soon. I do like Korean food very much |

Adventurer, I agree with you about Korean food. I think it's O.K., but it's just never really stuck with me. Schwartz's is the best smoked meat in the world! If you found better in Eastern Europe, let me know where and I'll get there one day. You're right about breakfast, though. Chez Cora is number one in Montreal and deservedly so. Killer great breakfast!! You've got to get there at a pretty decent hour on a Saturday or Sunday morning or you'll be waiting in line for an hour.....it is that good. |

Yea I agree ,Tzechuk. Chinese food is amazing. My last girlfriend in Canada was from Hong Kong. She introduced me to a whole new world of the absolutely greatest food. God, I loved it! Korean food doesn't even come close to traditional chinese food. |

Of course, but not at Korean restaurant prices.
From my few months in Montreal I can say it's the restaurant mecca of Canada, if you can afford it. A different delicious place each night. I went through my savings there pretty good in the fall of 9/11.
Winnipeggers may eat out more per capita, but for variety and quality and pinache, Montreal has it beat. (Vancouver, Toronto and Alberta doesn't compare, believe me, I've lived in all those places.) |

I used to go Chez Cora pretty often. I haven't had some decent crepes or pancakes here since I've been here. As far as Schwartz, the food is awesome. It connects to Jews from Eastern Europe is what I meant.
Have you ever had Polish kielbasa? That's Polish sausage. That's pretty good stuff, too. There is nothing like the Lebanese/Greek joints as well with the souvlakis. I just love the tzaziki sauce. Also, those Jamaican meat pies are pretty good that you can find at some convenient stores especially in NDG. There were also joints that made some good subs.
There was a good sub and pizza place not far from Loyola Campus.
I forget the name of it. I used to order from there a lot. Korean food
somehow hasn't made peace with my stomach. If Korean food were Japanese food, I would not really care so much about the other food I am missing. I like Yaki Soba (spelling). The sauce is just grand with the stuff. I am not saying I wouldn't miss certain Korean dishes like samgaytang, dak galbi, and bulgogi. I definitely will.... |

Korean BBQ is actually considered to be higher class food in China. Its more expensive than Chinese food in China.
Snowmeow, you can move to LA or NYC! there are 24 hour Korean food places there! haha |
