I don't really have an opinion on this article, I am just surprised at how obsessed Korea is on this issue. The article is about the singer Kim Jang-hoon donating money to help correct historical inaccuracies in regards to Dokdo.

I found that article quite interesting. But using that money to send postcards and publishing history books to remedy falsehoods? Unfortunately I'm not convinced that Mr. Kim's and VANK's efforts will make any difference to the international community, though. I've not seen valid proof that Liancourt Rocks were Korean territory and I've been watching quite closely at this whole issue. What if VANK is wrong?
If the Korean government is so sure of its rightful ownership of Liancourt Rocks it should take the issue to the International Court and get a ruling that would put a stop to this debate. But what if they lost? Would Korea withdraw her troops from the island? Unfortunately I don't think that they would. |

I haven't seen a compelling argument from the Korean side either, and I try not to think too much about it, haha. I've also seen no indication that the outside world gives a hoot about the Liancourt Rocks (we've seen what the Wikipedia community thinks about the whole argument). I don't have anything constructive to add to this thread . . . I just feel that 100 million won could be better spent elsewhere. *sigh*
edit: I guess Korea believes that taking the issue to an international court would be a sign of defeat. It'd be an acknowledgement of the other side's stance, which goes against everything the Korean side stands for in the first place. If what I've read on Occidentalism.org about the issue is true, I don't think Korea would stand much of a chance in front of an impartial jury. |

The Korean government should do exactly what the Japanese government did when they "incorporated" the Ryukyu Islands and Okinawa in the past; simply ignore outside opinions, and quietly continue build up a presence on the islands. What exactly is the UN going to do? Tell them to pack their naval station up and go back to the mainland?
On a side note, it's like the Japanese asking for the islands stole by Russia at the end of WWII. The Japanese keep asking for the islands back, and Russia basically ignores them. I can't see Russia ever handing them back. |
