|
|
One school I was interested in had a clause saying that the return airfare allowance was 1,000,000 KRW. Now as this is high season, the cheapest flight I could find was $1973 CAD. So I would have to repay about $900 CAD for my flight.
Does anyone else not get a full airfare benefit? |

Nah my contract just states that it's a return airfare. Holy hell yours is expensive, is that Korean Air by chance? |

As far as I am aware, my school will pay up to 1,000,000 W each way. I believe that is what they are given from the city. So, you might want to check the clause again. Seems too cheap to me. |

Unless you signed a contract that specified 1,000,000 Won I don't think there is such a thing as a limit. I might be wrong though. There certainly isn't a limit on airfare for public school jobs. I flew with Korean Air and my one way ticket was around $1700 Canadian.

My school's contract says that they only pay $600 for a ticket, but I was able to negotiate more money on the way over because they needed me so much. Of course that opened the floodgates for everyone else . . . Have you talked to the school and told them that the amount for a plane ticket is unreasonable? The amount in the contract is probably just to keep teachers from charging a first class ticket or some other super expensive flight to the school. They might agree to pay the total amount for the cheapest ticket available. That's what my school ended up doing. |

In my PS contract there is not limit, but if I fly Korean Air they will only pay 75% of the fare. I guess because it is the most expensive carrier.
I am flying one way to London with Thai Airlines for about 800,000 won.

I thought that if a school sponsored your visa, it was their responsibility to make sure you got back home, according to the law?
75% of the ticket price don't cut it. |

Mine is only $610 (tax included) You should try Jalpak International USA. My mom's roundtrip is $800.Wow, your ticket sounds like a big ripoff. Maybe you're looking in the wrong places. |

May I ask, in what city does the trip originate? What I have seen is a big difference in fares when a trip starts off in a North American city compared to one that starts off in Seoul. |

I am going from Austin,TX to Detroit, MI. Then Detroit to Tokyo Narita, then from Tokyo Narita to Seoul ICN. I would've saved money doing the roundtrip but it's not refundable. My mom is doing the same. The way I'm going but in October.
I looked by myself online, and all the oneways and roundtrips were ridiculous. My mom was saying her friend flew really cheap to Korea, so we called her and asked and got this travel agent's number. The cheapest I was able to find on all those airlines. Travelocity, efares, cheapofares, kayak, etc, were like $800 $900 range, and $1400range for roundtrip. So some travel agents get some cheap deals. I don't know how they find it.
My mom also buys tickets for my grandparents in Korea from America (so they can visit us), because it's just cheaper to buy it from here. That's what she says. And mails it or emails it to them. |
